over the last 55-60 years i have had almost every kind of lever action 22 made pass through my hands.
yesterday my new neighbor told me he had one with about 15 rounds through it that he was going to get rid of so he could buy a hand gun
well i had a 9mm laying around unused so made the trade. the henry has the smoothest action i have ever encountered on a 22 lever. today i check accuracy.
not a fan of painted guns but it is what it is and the function is what really matters. i wish Henry would leave sharp edges on their octagonal barrels but again it is what it is.
I, too, recently acquired my first Henry. It is by far the smoothest action 22 lever gun I have ever tried. And it shots well enough to head shoot tree rats.

i shot this morning to see what brand ammo it liked. norma tac and of all things remington thunderbolt were the best with thunderbolt going .75 inch for 6 shots at 30 meters. norma was 1.5 inch. it seemed as if it got tighter the more i shot it. will just have to shoot it more and see. sweet little lever.
Many people dis the Thunderbolts but they were goto ammo for my old Savage 187N.

A lot of folks like to diss Henry's.

You'll find that 99% of them have never even fired one let alone owned a Henry.

My Frontier model 22mag with the octagon barrel will never leave my gun cabinet.
It doesn't have the craftsman ship of my old M39 but it never fails to go bang and is the most accurate 22mag I've owned.

I was pleasantly surprised with my Henry . Still prefer the build quality/shorter action throw of the BL22,but can recommend a Henry to anyone that asks about them.

yep........Marlin 39's are a piece of history............

but.......some shooters don't want to pay the going price of a 39.......

thats where Henry comes in........still a very fine shootin' 22 of many variations.......

Just not a Marlin 39.......here's one of my 39's....1970 CL.......

My 1946 vintage 39 has had a hard life but she'll still put one in a Squirrels ear.

I want an all weather(any caliber).

My wife and I both have the Golden Boys. They have very smooth actions and accuracy is good. She had trouble seeing the front sight so I replaced it with a fiber optic sight. That helped a lot. The drop on the stock is more than I prefer and a little hard to get used to. They are pretty rifles with a little bling.

Here's my Henry's. The top two are .22's and the bottom is a .44mag.. The middle one is an engraved model.

I bought a small game rifle in .22 mag a while back. It sat in the safe forever and I finally shot it last week. Shot the lids off 20 oz bottles at 25 yards every time. Smooth operation, good accuracy, nice fit and finish. Barrel band is plastic, I don't care for that but every thing else is very exceptable. Just wish ammo was more available and a little cheaper.

Anybody used one of these Henrys that has the Skinner peep sight?
Posted By: seal_billy Re: a first henry for me - 02/13/18
Yep, I got the small game 22 mag with octagon barrel and Skinner peep. Love it.

My oldest boy loves our .22 lr Small Game Rifle. It's yet to draw blood, but it carries, handles and shoots so well I've no doubt that's soon to come. [Linked Image]

I love the old Marlins, but the Henry H001 is the best deal around for a new 22lr.

Might as well revive this thread...... Three days ago I picked up the base model Henry .22 levergun ( H001) on sale. Only have 30 rounds through it so far but I'm liking it. Only thing under consideration now is that I might upgrade the sights a bit. Any other comments on the Henry H001 in general? It does seem like a sweet deal on a new 22LR .

Try different kinds of ammo. Mine will shoot 1/2 inch at 50 yards with CCI mini mag round nose. It doesn't feed stingers all that well. It has a nice smooth action and a pretty decent trigger. Factory sights are poor I maybe should have got the octagon barrel model with better sights but the H001 seemed to fit/feel better in the gun store.

I fired a friends 17 HMR this week. Very smooth action and shoots very well. I would wish for a more robust ejector.

I to find the drop on the stock more than I shoot well.

He had 2 that we shot and both have top of the line walnut and very nicely finished . The 2nd one was a 243 WIN.
