This hunt was booked for 3 hunters for 11/19-22/2023 with the Birddog Bunkhouse in Gettysburg, SD. I hunted there last year and had a great hunt. We were supposed to be a party of 3. However, the night before the hunt my friend had a cardiac emergency and was unable to go this year. So, I and his son headed out from Anthony, KS at 3 am bound for to Gettysburg, SD. Jeremy and I got to hunt a couple hours the first evening and I managed to kill my 3-bird limit. We were hunting with my German Shorthair and his black Lab. The next day was a full hunting day and we limited out. The following day we killed 5 birds and missed the final bird for a limit late that evening. Day 3 was a half hunting day before we headed home for Thanksgiving with our families, and we again killed 5 birds and missed a bird minutes before we had to hit the road to complete a limit. There were plenty of birds, but they were wild and dispersed this year. We mostly hunted road ditches and rights-of-way off of two-track and section line roads. Bobby Lowe, the owner/operator of the Birddog Bunkhouse was with us and prepared a good breakfast, provide lunch stuff for brown bag lunches and cooked hearty dinners for us. We met and got to visit with some great guys from Virgina who unfortunately went home without any birds.
