Hunted walk in on the way up here on Friday. Saw a few birds, but were they ever spooky. Definitely can tell the difference in public ground versus the private ground we have hunted the last 2 days. Still spooky, but enough sticking around to at least get some shots.

Buddy’s setters pointing this morning.

Sun obscuring a beautiful point. On a rooster. In a wide open cornfield. That dad then called a hen and made me pull up as I was shooting….oh well…

Myself, dad, and bro in law finished out the afternoon on our own. Better shooting and we’d have been way better.

And a good couple hours today before we headed the 12 hours home.

Dad and I after a mile walk across a section to hit a cattail pocket at the road. Mine went down very much alive in the neighbors cattails and without a dog I’d have never found it.

Great pictures and well done.

I am thinking I am going to give SD another go myself this year.

I'm sure the birds will be even more challenging than when I was there a couple weeks ago but I want to get my pup back over there and giver it hell.

absolutely...crazy not to take advantage of the great weather for the best hunting of the year

The birds were definitely spooky, even on private ground. Like I told everybody else though, its not the majority of the birds you're trying to get, its the lone straggler that is sticking around you're trying to pin down.

And I'm guessing if a guy puts in enough miles you should be able to scratch out a couple limits.

I'm hoping this nice weather holds as it makes the long drive that much easier.

Thinking the soonest I am going to get back is about the 2nd week in January.

Hopefully all the holiday hunters are done hunting by then.

Not public, but definitely wild birds. I could have stated that better. We did hunt some public and birds we saw were definitely skittish and in their A game.

I’d bought one in October trying to protect a wound in my older dog. I was so impressed with the added visibility I bought one for my younger dog. I always thought my white dogs were visible in the field. The fluorescent colors definitely improve it.

Very nice pictures! This is something I want to do. This year is booked with a Spring fishing trip to Lake St. Clair, the summer is booked with a trip to New Orleans, and next winter we're traveling to Germany. Maybe I can fit it in sometime in 2025. Save some birds for me!

my 3 year old griff ran full speed into a bent over tee post chasing a wounded rooster. hit him upper chest. he yelped rolled over on his back. I thought for certain the post penetrated his upper chest and might have seriously wounded him. I ran over and there was a small tear in the chest protector with no penetration. His chest developed a large bump for a few days. I monitored him and he was sore for a bit but he covered quickly the next day.

big believer in protective wear for bird dogs

Love it. 5.5 lbs ( little less actually) might be a tad light. But I hit a lot of birds. (And missed a few…)
