pheasant hunting Saturday in southern ND. Bitterly cold especially when going into the wind, snow drifting and poor ice.
One guy went in up to his mid thigh in a slough. He went back to the pickup, put on a pair of insulated coveralls, emptied out his Muck boots and came back out into the cattails. He said his feet were not cold- so I guess Muck boots work pretty well for that application.

We only got two pheasants, and I did not get a shot but it was fun getting out and watching the dogs work for a couple of hours.

Here in NW IA we got about 8-9" and 30mph winds on Sat. Went out for an hour or two today in single digits and WC of maybe -10. Snow was wind packed enough to carry the birds who've learned running means living while my dog and I were breaking through every drift.

This time of year a bird in the hand is usually earned and worth about four in the bush. grin.

goodnews - It's not fair that the birds can run on top of the drifts! This time of the year it is amazing the number of birds I see and how few I shoot.
