Conditions were pretty bad for the hunters, 17 degrees, 20 mph wind going up to 30 at times where we hunted. Populations have been down for the last few years, with last year slightly better and this year more or less the same. Our small group ended Saturday with 4 roosters and 5 quail, Sunday till noon we got 3 roosters and a couple quail. Son-in-laws 3 year old lab was his usual steady self, and Sons 1.5 yr old shorthair is really turning into a good one. Cheesy and I hunted with our 16 gauge SxS, mine a Dickinson with 1 1/8 oz-nickeled 5s, his a 100 year old Oscar Will (Venus Gun Works) with a light 1 oz -5s @1185 fps. Both hammered the birds out to 35 yards when we did our job.

This one will be going to a top gunsmith for a general action cleaning and some repair work when things slow down a little. The stock will get glassed to the action to preserve the wood a little better.

We we stayed in Dodge city and hunter 30-45 NW. our group of 4 wound up with 3 roosters and 4 quail. We had two roosters down that were not found. No dog makes it tough. Looking in 4-5ft sage brush makes it hard to find them.

Missed the best picture in the first post.

Congrats. How do you guys find the time to take these fencepost pictures? I am usually headed toward the cooler

We always try to allow time for pics, helps the ol timer(me) catch his breath. Usually do a group picture at the end of the day but missed it somehow this trip.
