Any help on locating 40 -82 ammo? Thank you
Are you looking for loaded factory ammo or components and/or loading gear?
Right now for some loaded ammo. My shooting buddy has his grandfathers original Winchester, which is in very good shape. He wants to shoot it before getting into reloading it. Thank you for your reply
Thanks MB --They are sold out
I have a complete assortment of .40-82 dies, sizers, neck, various expanders, compression and seating dies. Would consider selling, however, these are for the Crossno/Shiloh version which I believe is different from the original .40-82. Except for FL sizing, all of this can be done with .40-65 dies, which most of mine are. Once cases are formed, I've never had to FL size. It's all pretty easy, straightforward.
Might be worth a call to BACO to see if they will run you a box. They don't always stock some stuff but will make some on order.
If they don't give you much hope for that, then Paul's suggestion of running a 45-90 case into a 40-65 die and fire forming then trim back to 2.4 is the next best bet. Might want to land and groove diameter, as those old 40's often used a .406 diameter bullet, and that might be where you run into problems loading coming up with a 260 gr .403 or.406 dia bullet.
Bullshop might be a source for bullets etc.
Just to clarify, my FL .40-82 die is a CH4D. I don't believe it is possible to form .40-82 brass from, say, .45-90 with any other die. Once you have formed the brass, any future loading can be done with .40-65 dies.
