Looking to try the Gould Express in my Winchester 1886 45-90 WCF. Does anyone know of a cast bullet maker who sells this particular bullet? So far Mt. Baldy Bullet Co. is the only company I can find, and their not cheap. Any help would be great. Thanks Eric
Those bullets have a rep for rather explosive traits. Lotsa meat destruction. Lyman has a mold for a HP slug of around that weight that would fare well in a levergun cast at about 20:1.
I just loaned out that EXACT set up, but for the .43 Spanish / .44-77 family.
I'm not so sure I would not use an even HARDER alloy than 20:1, ET.
Knucklehead, is your Winchester '86 sporting the typical 1 in 22" twist rate ?
If so, it oughta' LOVE the Lyman # 2650122 !
Its the sporting type with a 26" barrel 1-32 twist for the 300gr. bullet.
EvilTwin, do you know the number for the mold you mentioned?
456122 is the Ideal Mold for the 330 Gould Express. 457122 is the Lyman Mold. Great bullet!
http://www.montanabulletworks.com/BB_45_caliber.htmlThe bullet was designed to be cast soft and fired at blackpowder velocities.
