Had hands on a Roller with a 30" barrel with bayonet lug. Rear ladder type sight.

The seller had no clue on caliber but thought it was about 30.

I'd say the bore is about 0.30ish based on where a 30 cal bullet stopped at the muzzle. (Hardly scientific, but its all I had). Probably a touch smaller given the slight chamfer.

Chambering was anyone's guess. A 3006 case won't fit (again, all I had, and stops about 5/8 from fitting, snugging up somewhere past the breech). Using the case head of the -06 as a gauge, the breech diameter is close to .473, some wiggle room but not much.

There is no rim on the chamber cut - it appears the extractor will grab a rimless cartridge.

The stamping on the tang has 3 lines of dates, best I can tell, the last one is March 1874.

What is my most likely possibilities for the guns chambering? Next time I go, I need to go loaded for bear to try and scoop out what I am looking at before I pull the trigger.
7x57?
More than likely 7mm Mauser. A chamber cast will tell for sure.
