How good are these motors far as power goes? Truck wouldn’t be for me but my daughter and wife.. it’s a 2021. Just in the look mode for now..

My son got one as a loaner for a week, while the 2020 3.5 was in the shop. He absolutely hated it for lack of power. But, the terrain down here is up or down...very little flat driving. Very small load in the bed, just chainsaws and hand tools. He is also disappointed with the 2020, 3.5 compared to the 2007 3.0 he traded in (both 6sp manual)...cubes went up, power went down?? He thinks maybe emissions caused less power with larger engine.

I had a 2.7 in a 2009. It was a dog behind an automatic. Would have been “just ok” behind a six speed.

Have had 08 and a 14 2.7 in front of 5 speed manuals. Both a standard cab and an extended.

Great little motor. Will merge on the highway, but it’s no powerhouse.

Got mine for reliable commuting and safe travels.

Own a 20 now, quad cab TRD with the 3.5 and a six speed. Mild down low, revs out well. Pick the appropriate gear and go.

Took me awhile to get used to this motor. May be adaptive to use. A learning throttle if you will.

Could also be coming from a Cummins, gassers are different.

Yeah I might pass on the 2.7... like I said just looking, my kid has a Ford Taurus we bought it new and she does not like driving it. Not saying my kid is spoiled but I don’t even like driving it lol.

The 98 regular cab that I had certainly wasn't going to win any races or pull any huge loads, but it started every time and got me every place I asked it to take me. Also quite handy on logging roads and two tracks that full size vehicles had trouble on. As I get older, I'm realizing not everything needs be a super high performance animal.

I had two 98 model 4wd xtra cabs with manuals, one being a 3.4l six and the other a 2.7l four. Both were sufficient for everyday driving, but the six was noticeably stouter. I’d not run away from the four cyl option if in manual though. Solid motor.

This thread has me looking for a standard cab to bomb around in again
I never had any issues with the 2.7 in multiple tacomas. Specifically a 2009 regular cab and 01 regular cab (I believe it's two different engines, same displacement)

The 09 got great mileage on the hwy...like mid 20's.
I've got a 2012 access cab with the 2.7. It won't win any drag races, but it does everything I ask it to. I can merge safely on the interstate and pull a 3,500lb trailer cross country with no problems. I did put lower gears in it, which made it a lot more fun to drive. It's not a cummins, so as long as you don't expect it to do things it wasn't designed for, it will be fine.
