I have a 14x7 box trailer I use to haul around ATVs, and use to solo camp in when it's cold and I'm dragging trailer anyways.

My problem is it sits very close to the truck, and I'd like to extend the distance between the truck and the trailer.

It's this trailer, with even a shorter nose.

Anyway to get more room? It's awful close when turning tight.

Would one of these work, or is there a better solution?

If I wanted to extend that trailer's tongue length, I see about using some square tube steel to do it.
Here's a picture of a drift boat trailer that shows the concept.
You would not need it to be near as long as this DB trailer tongue, but you get the idea.

Buy one of those adjustable hitches, where you can adjust the drop if need be. I picked one up at Sam's club for our 1 ton and had to buy an extension for the trailer harness.

That type of hitch extension gets used a lot. Even though you don't seem to have much of a load I wouldn't go any longer than need be for desired results. If a 1' one would do it, going longer just complicates things.

I've got a bud that uses a 2 footer to pull a 17' Tracker fish-n-ski to Fl. every year with success. But the more I think about his situation I wonder if he's keeping a close eye on his hitch & it's fasteners.

Yeah, alot of pins to keep an eye on. But with a standard hitch I couldn't open the tailgate cuz of the landing wheel. Now I can.
I would say be wary, once you change the length of the tongue, you also change the balance point, which can cause many issues.

I fab custom hitches on a lot of dif. trailers and vehicles , for what you have and want done I would install a piece of 3"x 3"x 1/4" box tubing to the front of your trailer like the pic. of the boat trailer that DD posted . with the hitch in the size ball you need on the box tube then mount the trailer jack so the tailgate on a truck will not hit it when dropped . but I do this for a living so it has to be done right

I have one of those and have used it quite a bit. I pull a small travel trailer and a utility trailer and want enough space to be able to lower my tailgate to access the bed while still hooked to the trailer. I have a cap on my truck and stow a lot of gear in the bed.

It does reduce the amount of tongue weight so if you're pulling a heavier trailer it may not be a good idea. But it works for me and my light trailers
