Check out this article: WHEN TO CHANGE OIL

I know this subject has been beaten to death. However, there's the fact that millions of gallons of perfectly good oil are dumped every year and mega millions of $$ are wasted doing it. My Dodge Cummins recommends 7500 mile changes. That's a long ways from the old customary 3000 mile changes that many still use needlessly.

I have gone to 5000 mile intervals.

However, no engine ever failed from too clean oil. Oil does not get burned up or wear out, it gets contaminated. Severe driving isn't necessarily on dusty roads ,etc. It can also be those short 1-2 mile trips that build up moisture in the oil.

I only put 5K or less a year on my Cummins Dodge and I feel it should at least get a change once a year. The drained oil goes to Walmart or Advance Auto for recycling.

Besides, if I didn't change oil but once every 7500 miles or so in my Tacoma, I wouldn't have bar oil for my chain saw. grin

I put about 7500/yr on my Dodge Cummins. I change it once a year so it's right on the the recommendation. It also has a computerized monitor that warns me when a change is due. supposedly it monitors engine revs, miles, acceleration, and all sorts of other stuff to decide when it's due. Since I've had it, I've never been warned.

I go 10-12k in my wife's Porsche and 5-6k in all of my other vehicles.

I used to change every 3000. Then I went to mobil 1 and changed it once or twice a year depending on the mileage. Now, for instance, in my wifes 2012 TDI Jetta, it has an oil minder that defaults to 10000 mile intervals, and then monitors the amount of fuel consumed and adjusts the interval as required. It works for me....

I don't drive a lot of miles anymore and change the oil by what the computer says except always once a year and always after towing something heavy a long ways.

my old 1988 Toyota 4Runner gets an oil change every 6 thousand miles. Regular stuff, not synthetic. Well over 300,000 miles. Uses no oil between changes.
Usage is as my daily driver, my woods truck and long distance trips.

My 97 Dodge Cummins is hard on the oil. Its about as thin as coffee after 4,000 or so. Synthetic gets me to a little more than 5,000.

Once a year...or 10K miles..Moble One 5w30 syn

'98 & '05 Tacoma w/V6 & an '02 Chev HD 2500 w/6.0 liter gas
My 99 dodge cummins has gotten changed every 7500 miles since it was new, it's got 382K miles on it now. Used oil gets put to good use starting brush pile fires or keeping the dust down on dirt roads around the place.

I have been thinking about changing the filter at 5000 miles and adding fresh oil to make up for the oil lost from the filter change. Then I would change oil at 10,000 miles. I don't tow a heavy trailer or drive dusty dirt roads. I alternate between my Ram and Plymouth Breeze for my 12 mile commute to work.

In my cars I change every 10k. In my Dodge Stratus I use diesel motor oil. Has a bit more additives. In my Saturn I have 12 and should change it soo I guess. In my GMC Diesel Duramax I went with what the computer says and it went 9,990 mi. I changed it in 10,500. The time before it went 12k. Before that I went 25k on Amsoil with one filter change. Before that I went with Amsoil with 15 k filter changes and an oil test every 20k. I changed at 39k. Before that I went 46k with Amsoil. The motor runs so darn good I swear it runs better every year.
