woke up to go to the head, walk by the kitchen window....

entire front yard lit up like a prison.... movement sensitive motion lights around the house...

counted 45 elk grazing on acorns....

early morning excitement....

skip the politics, Oregon ain't a bad place to live...

we don't see these animals around the neighborhood in the summer..

but winter time, they come down and graze the neighborhood, and the former golf course behind the house...

cool to see them all at less than 20 to 30 feet out the window or closer...

Seafire they’ve cost me a lot of days fixing fences if I or the wife don’t look out before turning on the lights. At times they will be within 15 feet of the coffee pot and don’t like being startled.

I have nothing for them to knock over here Nestucca....

we have motion lights around the house.... I 5 and some big transient camps are a mile away..

but the lights down phase the elk around here....

elk here on the old golf course at night and early mornings.. several herds... from 20 to 50 elk in them...

mainly cows, but some big ones and occasionally the big bulls will be tagging along...

Being startled by elk out the kitchen window... real world problems

My yard elk are very shy... they avoid coming out in the open. My dog lets me know when they are bedded in the tree's. This one surprised me last fall, from my kitchen window.....
My yard deer will eat carrots from my hand....

Maybe 40 feet from a gravel driveway. She had to turn around and take a peak.

Beautiful animals. I love 'em. Ever have deer or turkey in your acorns?

Every day.. if they are not into something else... several herds of them also...

just came back from the store... gone for an hour... pull into the drive way, and about 25 elk are bedded down in the drive way or grazing on the lawn....pull into the drive way... they scattered just like a covey of quail....

yesterday working in the yard, shoveling gravel out of my trailer.... 12 does came running thru the yard and right by me.... probably 20 feet away, crossed the creek, and stopped in the neighbor's yard.... they started moving again, and coming right by me and then stopping is this buck that stops like the same 20 feet away and doesn't even look at me.... then stops.. gave me a chance to count the 7 points on each side....
so a 7 point buck by western count, or a 14 point buck by eastern count....

he was one of the 7 bucks grazing in the back yard this morning about 8 o'clock that morning... the smallest one was a forked horn...

its the rut season still evidently....so yeah come winter time, they come down from the mountains this time of year...

ya never know what is going to happen...
