After 2 years of messing around with a variety of 180s and not quite getting where I want to be, I worked up 2 very accurate loads for my .300 WSM.

Load 1: 200 Partition@ 2780
Load 2: 168 ttsx @ 3048

There must be a scatter node in between there because anything in the typical 180 speed range has been marginal.

Last year I shot my bull at 275 yards. I passed up a busted bull at 340 yards. Other kills in camp were 200 yards and just short of 400 yards. We don’t typically hunt the dark timber.

Which would you choose?

Yes. Then go hunting and stop worrying about it.

Either one would work perfectly. Why over think this schidt?? Practice more with your rifle, until you are confident and go slay schidt..

I’d take the 168 at 3050 myself. It’s going to go as deep as te 200 PT and gain you some Point Blank range.

I'd pick whatever groups tighter AND you can find. I've had to switch components the last few years because of lack of availability and starting a load over sucks.

I like Partitions but would probably have stopped load development after the first of these two. Nothing smaller than a Brontosaur would notice the difference.

I'd use any of them. This year I'm going to try an 270win and 150gr Winchester Power Points. My load is a good deal weak sauce compared to any 300WSM.

Load 2: 168 ttsx @ 3048 Would be my choice. Either, an elk doesn’t stand a chance.

If the TTSX shot good I’d take that with total confidence for anything in North America. Good luck. 👍

While the Partition is a good bullet…….hands-down the 168 TTSX! memtb

^^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^

If I didn’t have my 270 Win or 30-06, this would be my elk cartridge and load. A 168gr. TTSX at 3000fps+ is bad medicine for 4 legged creatures!

I've never subscribed to the "velocity node" notion. Nodes are based on barrel vibrations - e.g. timing of the bullet exit at a neutral oscillation point.

I have killed a lot of elk with 165 gr. bullets. Not Barnes, but they worked fine.
