My recently acquired X-Bolt is going along next month for the second combined season to Colorado. I picked up a box 150 gr TTSX bullets and some IMR4831 powder. Any recommended loads to try?

We worked up a load with the 150's at 3200+ with R#25 with a Win Mag primer, 1/2" accuracy, bullet jumping .050.

I won't comment on your bullet choice but I'd go with IMR 7828.

Yup..Burn that stuff in my 7 Rem mag and the STW.Seems to be the go to powder for the big 7's.

In MY rifle, 67gr of IMR4831 gets me really good results, both in terms of accuracy as well as velocity, with the 160gr TSX. Work up until you see the prescribed book velocity.

Imagine RL 22 would work well also.

What kind of rifle?? I'm working on a buddie 7MM Mag and the farther I gat from the lands the better it shoots??? But im no where near .050 !!!!!!!

I've typically found the best accuracy with TSX/TTSX bullets at between 0.050-0.100" from the lands...

Wow!! no kidding?? I got a ruger MkII .25-06 and they are .003 off the lands and that thing shoots great. (100gr. TSX )
I know the GMX bullet suggest .035 to .085 off the lands but never needed to try that. Got my .30-06 kissing the lands hard and it also shoots well, it does have signs of pressure.......

IMR7828SSC, 140g TTSX and CCI magnum primers proved to be a very good combination in my Ruger 7mmm RM.

You should try throwing together a few seated at 0.050 off the lands and see what you get.

.003 off the lands you say? Do you have a device to measure ogive on bullets? The projectile part? If so I'd suggest measuring about 50 and see what max and min variations you get. That actually means that you are lucky with the sweet spot in your load and barrel harmonics because you are literally shooting some rounds with some freebore, some that are just touching and some that are jammed..

My rule of thumb has been do NOT go into the area of from .010 off to .010 engaged at all... either be that min in or off. That way each round you shoot will either be freebore or jammed in one amount or another. The pressure spikes and often the accuracy will thank you.

Of course you can't see the pressure variations unless hooked up to a gauge and unless you are loading max it would never bite you probably. And the accuracy differences... well you are dealing with a factory ruger to start with so it may not be noticeably differences in accuracy there either.

rost495. Yes I got a bullet comparator and try to use the same lot number bullets. I do measure the bullets and have noticed a difference but not major. I'm shooting 150gr. GMX out of my .30-06 and some of them you can feel the "tightness" of the chambering.... there is signs of pressure but it shoots good, under .75" @ 100 on a bad day...

I tried to moly up my bullets and back them off this spring to reduce pressures but then I lost my grouping.....

If thats all you are after is 3/4 moa or so... I don't know that it matters, but the pressure situation bothers me enough that I'll never do what you are doing again just because of variance...

I can't shoot the same lot number... well I could if I bought thousands of the same lot right away but I never know if a bullet will shoot or not.... and that doesn't really matter because they can get the machines out of whack midstream...

BTW often with moly, you have to switch powders if you are on the edge of a burn rate and go to moly. Regardless, moly was all I shot in competition, and I would still not seat the way you are.

I haven't used that combo, but I have used the 150g TTSX & IMR 7828SSC in my 7mm RM. Most accurate groups my rifle and I have produced.

On a side note, last year I loaded in my 7mm Rem mag, 150 gr Nosler E-Tips with Ramshot Magnum, 74 grains, 2974 fps, and they worked very well on cow elk at 400 yards.

I have an older A-Bolt stainless stalker 26" barrel w/BOSS. I'm loading 73.5 grains of Ramshot Magnum, Federal 215M Gold Medal primer & the 150 Grn. TTSX. Average was 3188 FPS just under 1".

La Rebel, interesting and probably expected that the TTSX will outrun the E-Tip. Thanks for the info.........
