I have been throwing around the idea of doing some elk hunting in alaska. I dont know much about how the elk heard is up there so im hopeing some one can shed some light and share some information. How is the trophy quality? I know they have roosevelt elk, but do they have rocky mountain elk also? What parts of alaska are they located? Any info is appreciated. Thanks.
Roosevelt elk only. Only found on Afognak. Hard hunting. Good luck. There may be the occasional elk found on Kodiak that swam over but it's rare. I didn't go for elk when I lived in Alaska but this is the only elk I'm aware of.
Only a few places with elk. Rosies only, an occasional monster is taken but most are pretty small. There are elk as mentioned on Afognak, Etolin, and Raspberry Islands, and supposedly on the South East mainland and a few islands. IIRC there was a giant 7pt shot on Etolin a couple years ago, but most are small racked 5-6pts or smaller, usually chunky racks though. Buddy shot one a couple years ago on Raspberry that netted nearly 400lbs of boned out meat... no joke.

If you like adventure, misery and meager chances of filling a tag, the hunt is for you. smile
