Pretty proud of the wife. She decided for her first elk she wanted to pack it out on her back instead of using our pack stock we have. She busted her ass to fill her cow tag this year and didn't complain one bit when we had to pack it right at 2 miles. I may have gotten the "go to hell" look from her once or twice though. 7mm-08 140 grain accubond 398 yards. One shot and elk ran about 40 yards and tipped over. Would have liked to have closed the distance farther but we were losing light and there was mule deer in between us and the elk. Very thankful to have a freezer full of elk meat again this year. Now hopefully I can fill my tag this coming weekend in the Crazies.

here's one of those looks the next day when the adrenaline was gone.

Some of the mule deer that were in our way

Her with a load that night while she was still running on adrenaline. I was amazed I got her to walk out in the dark after we found lion tracks in the same drainage as us.

Tell her congrats for me.
It won't take to many back pack jobs before she sees the value in pack stock. I figured that out a LONG time ago.

Excellent, you're a lucky man. You can't have a good hunt without a least a couple "go to hell" looks!! Congrats.

She actually didn't mind it at all after it was done. Said she definitely appreciates the meat a lot more after she realizes the work

Lots of things seem important before the elk bug hits you. Once you get it ,it is only curable by being in the areas where you can smell the musky smell of elk wafting through the trees..........

Awesome! Looks like you have a hunting partner for life. I like your choice on the 7mm-08 and the 140 Accubond, too. Thanks for sharing the pictures. Congratulations to both of you and best wishes for many more memorable hunting trips together.

I'm sure your hunting techniques weren't crowding the lion at all. laugh
