Is Heart Lake in 33/34 or 24/25? It's right by Deep Lake right? I've hunted the Flat Tops for years, saw elk, but never was lucky enough to tag one. It's a beautiful area, typical of an ideal elk hunt scenery wise. I've also camped and 4x4'd the entire area around Heart Lake. Good luck to you and let us know how you do.

Heart Lake is in area 34. right west of Deep lake. We normally hunt about 10 miles southwest of Heart Lake.

Hunting buddy has a house closing the week we were supposed to go. Havent missed a season in 25 years but its not looking good this year

Sorry to hear about your hunting buddy, I know the feeling. It's a beautiful area and if we didn't have 1st season tags, I'd be interested.

I hunted 33 last year 1st season. Plenty of elk in there, but it was warm and WINDY. I saw a bull & small harem from 1100 yards and the last day got a couple of inches of snow and tracked a bull & cows for several hours until we ran out of time. This year I'm hunting closer to home.

I will be hunting the flat tops!
