Loading for my 9.3x62 and 250gr Barnes TSX and 250 Hornady GMX shoot equally. Any thoughts on which is the "better" bullet? Familiar with Barnes in other calibers but never used nor have i heard much about the GMX?

I have never been able to tell any difference in terminal performance between TSX and GMX bullets, including the 250-grain 9.3's.

250 grain Nosler Accubond!
Posted By: szihn Re: 9.3 Bullet - 09/21/18
I doubt there is anything in N. American that could tell the difference between them.
My iron sighted Husky M46 9.3X57 is zeroed with 286 gr PPUs at 2100 FPS and the my Mauser M98 9.3X57 Carbine is zeroed with the 250 grain Accu bonds loaded to 2400 FPS.
I hope to have more info to pass along, within the next month or so.

I can’t speak to the GMX in 9.3 but my son used a 160gr GMX out of his 300 Win on an elk. She was quartering away and he hit behind the last rib, recovered under the skin on the off shoulder. I shot 18 red deer in Germany with 140gr GMX out of a 7 Mag and all but one were one shot kills. The one that took the second shot was my fault, too far back on a moving animal. Most punched through but the few that I recovered acted a lot like a Barnes, consistent but not explosive mushroom and significant penetration. All of the ones I found held together very well. Hope this helps.

Killed my moose with the 9.3 250gr AB last year....NO complaints! But, new rifle came with 100ea of the TSX and the GMX, and they both shoot so not gonna throw them away.

Will report back on my 9.3 Speer 270 grain hot-cor load in my Husqvarna 146 9.3 x 57. Got em dialed in at 150-200 yards pretty good! Plan on it being my primary rifle Colo 2nd rifle elk. 48 grains H4895. Seems to digest them very well.

Well see.

Try 60 grs of Varget under that TSX.......I think JB gave me that load.

I've shot a couple large bull moose with that TSX and it performed well.
One bull was wounded so I shot at 380 yards and put him down. The
recovered bullet had opened but not back to the core.

Kyawoodie, I have killed 13 antelope and deer with that bullet from my 9.3X74R Ruger #1 and that bullet, fired at 2450 FPS. I regret to say they all came apart more then I'd like and one of them was used to kill a white tail from a steep downward angle. It hit the spine and dropped the little buck, but the total penetration (measured) was only 5". I was running them a bit faster then you will from a 9.3X57, but some of my antelope were killed at 300 to 350 yards and they still came apart. Impact at that range would have to be slower then your 9.3X57 would be at 150 yards.

I would advise against using them on elk.

I love them as target bullets because I have not found any 9.3MM as accurate but the Hornady 286 comes very close and so does the Nosler Partition.

Both monos, TSX (BC .361), GMX (BC .360). Just plain physics no difference, both should plow through the biggest of elk easily out to 300 yards. Your choice in chamber and bullet will be more than adequate.

Thanks for the heads up szihn. Yeah Ive only used it down here on our deer and some big hogs. No issues. But the deer only dress like mebbe 75-90 lbs. Had It around nilgai but never used it on one. Just after a cow this year. I have many other sighted in options available. 95 Wins and other Mausers in appropriate ctgs!

Much obliged!

I am Looking at E etip from hornady and I Am wondering how these slower mono bullets do. Especially further out, notf that 300 or 400 yards is far.

Just ordered some GMX seconds from midway 17$ for 50, 250 gr.
Any load data, info. I normally shoot Barnes monos.
Thanks

While not in the 9.3 caliber , I have used both the TTSX and the GMX in 6mm, 7mm& 30 cal.
Both very similar in accuracy and performance about the only thing I noted was less copper fouling with the Hornady GMX .
This is just a casual observation when cleaning with Wipe-out,
Appeared to be less blue on patches. It was not enough of a difference to stop me from loading the TSX or TTSX anytime soon.

Use whatever your rifle shoots the best with and you are most accurate.

Mine really likes 286 gr Woodleighs

Here you go. These look VERY conservative. Sorry it's so fuzzy - had to size it way down to meet the attachment restrictions.

I'm getting 2650 fps with a 250 grain Nosler Accubond out of a an earlier (not Lipsey) Ruger African using Mule Deer's load data. Accuracy is amazing.

I shoot 286 NPs at close to 2500 fps and cannot imagine changing.
