I have the older 270 wby. Mag west german and wanted to know if any one has a good accurate load looking for sub MOA......thanks

Mine's a newer American made MKV - until recently, I've mostly shot 130 TSX/TTSX's with RE25, IMR7828 and RS Magnum. My current load is the 129 LRX with RE26. All combos are sub-MOA with RE 25/26 giving best velocites. 7828 is close on velocity but not quite as accurate for me.

Lot of good loads, but some rifles just are not capable of sub MOA. I had 7mmWBY mag that was one of them.

Mine wasn’t either until I switched to Norma MRP and 150 TTSX with 215M primers. Happy Trails

I used to have one years ago. Had to glass bed it, trigger tuned up, and never did get MOA, but close enough for great hunting. I used a 150 gr Hornady, 4831 and played with seating depth quite bit until I was happy. Just over an inch @ 100 yards

I have used 150 and 160 grain Nosler Partitions and had excellent accuracy, but my rifles were Mausers with one barrel being a close-out blank sold by Midway (Adams and Bennet) and the other was a Shilen barrel. Both shot sub-MOA with H4831 and also with RL22.

Keep in mind however that Elk are big targets and you really do not need prairie dog accuracy when you are hunting them.

A hunting buddy & his son use off the shelf 270 Win's. Loading the Barnes 130gr TSXay about 3050 fps they take elk each season . One shot kills with complete penetration. I use a 6.5 with the Barnes 120gr TSX. Same results. No need to over think this. Simple . Load the Barnes 130gr TSX in your 270 Wby. & your good to go.

My buddy has the same rifle. Years ago he was trying lots of different loads and bullets, was averaging 1 1/2 in groups. I found an article on loading for the old German Weatherby 270 that recomended the Hornady 150gr bullet. He tried that with I believe IMR 4831 and was getting clover leaf groups, He has killed plenty of elk with that load.

My CLR likes 150 NPT and Magnum at about 2900 fps.

Lots of dead elk with 130 gr Barnes and 71.5 gr RL 22 out of my 270 Weatherby accumark.

Sounds right on the mark to me . No pun intended...

I just acquired a Mark V in 270 WTHBY myself. I have been playing with 130gr. TTSX and 129gr. LRX bullets with RL-22 and IMR-7828. 7828 is proving to be the more accurate powder with the Barnes bullets over RL-22, which is a bummer as I have 4.5 lbs of 22! A guy at the last gun show had a table full of various bullets priced ridiculously low so I grabbed a box of 130gr. Hornady GMX bullets to try. The LRX and the GMX have basically the same BC so my drop tables will be the same. I'm going to let the gun tell me what it likes and go with it!

I shot my first elk with a 270 Wby. 140 accubond over H1000. I was posted up in a tiny orchard looking over a hayfield bordered by timber 250 yards away. Right before dusk Mr. Unlucky stepped out of the timber. Drove the tractor right up to it. smile

Mine is Japan made 24" barrel max dose 7828, Fed 215. and 150 gr Horn SP . Chrono 3140 fps avg and repeated groups ran small enough to hide under a quarter coin. Had 0 luck with 130 gr bullets. MB

I had one in early ‘70s, 24” made in Japan. Never had any luck with 130s but it shot nicely with 150s. Killed my first elk with it using old style 150 partitions, then several mule deer and antelope before trading it away. Back then all I had for a magnum powder was original H4831 and it worked very well. No chronograph in those days so no idea on what velocity I was getting. If I had one today I’d probably stay with 150s for everything, just as I did years ago.

Not much to putting one down if you get a solid hit or two into it at first...Nice bull 😎
