Any help picking a starting point in unit 38 for elk? We drew tags this year. Will have means to truck camp, have a quad, have stuff to hunt out of backpack. Never been in this unit. Always been to colorado. The map makes it hard to pick. Any help would be great.

Wished I could help. We will be in 37 in a couple of days after cow elk. Good luck out there. Supposed to be getting some snow. Might be worth looking into the areas between the tops and where they will slide off the mountain to the low ground..

Thank you. Good luck to you as well.
Im also kind of wondering if the elk migrate out of there or just go to lower ground but stay in the mountains. Or do they migrate east to the private ground or north to the reservation?

2nd year hunting this area. Weather will make them move plus depending on pressure from archery and grouse hunting. I heard archery has taken some bulls. Elk will head to private land. I start high and work low. I have not shot an elk yet. Snow and rain is forecasted. Alot of road access, so i would advise to get off roads and hunt at leat a half mile or further.

Thanks Esox357. Just met up with my hunting pard today to go over maps again. We have 4 spots marked that we will hunt in order. Hopefully we can put it together. We've both shot plenty of elk, but always in colorado. So new territory. Seems like roads everywhere. Hopefully we can find some solitude somewhere with some elk in it.
