I'm about to have a 6br built. I thought i'd choose a Kreiger barrel. now i see that their 6 groove barrel is only available in twists of 1;13, 1;14, 1;15. the 70 to 95 grain bullets i plan to shoot seem to call for a twist of 1;10, or 1;9. kreiger makes a 4 (four) groove barrel for 243/6mm in 1;8, 1;9, 1;10, etc. will the 4 groove barrel provide me with the accuracy most shooters require/expect? or do i have to look to another manufacture? thanks/ chaz

At the super shoot each year Shilen barrels have the winning edge. I like to think the best 6mm barrels are made by Shilen because of number of winners shooting them. I buy my barrels from Kim at the link below

That's because of the people shooting the rifle. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> I've seen some mighty good shooting Krieger barrels that I bet Tony and company would win with also.

Sure. Maybe Tony could win with a slingshot too. But, the truth is still the same. Shilen rules the point blank competition. Same as Lilja rules the Rimfire.

chaz,

You think this is hard... wait until you ask about gunsmith picks!

The 4-groove Krieger will provide you with plenty of "...the accuracy most shooters require/expect?"

The biggest problem that we have these days, fortunately, is picking a manufacturer because we have a bunch of extremely dedicated and talented barrel makers who all provide us with a superior product when compared to what we used to be able to get. We also are able to get a selection of rifling styles that was limited to the cut and buttoned straight land and groove styles just a few years ago. The hard part is picking from the field of makers, they're all good.

The barrel selection is only a part of the whole. It needs a good gunsmith to put it on the right action, bed it, and then you to work up the loads with quality components. It's a great adventure no matter which choices you make, enjoy the ride!

I like the suggestion of using this slightly specialized forum:

http://www.6mmbr.com/index.html

The left side is a menu, scroll down to "barrels" and click. Any of the makers on that list of contacts will gladly make you a barrel of your choosing. All of the makers on that list are capable of producing top quality, winning barrels. Even better is the fact that they are all pretty easy to get along with during communications.

Read a bunch and make the call.

Regards.
