Anybody like them?
Posted By: goalie Re: Ruger PC carbine - 09/10/21
I have one. It's fun for USPSA. No issues, I use Glock magazines.
Posted By: navlav8r Re: Ruger PC carbine - 09/10/21
I have one. I bought it last year and really like it. I put a low powered variable on it and it’s very accurate and a hoot to shoot. Mine is the one with the traditional stock and barrel contour.
Posted By: EdM Re: Ruger PC carbine - 09/10/21
Ditto the above though mine wears a Leupold Freedom 1x34 RDS.
Posted By: Dogslife57 Re: Ruger PC carbine - 09/10/21
I'm not into semi auto rifles or ARs, but I thought this would be a good economical option for the coming civil war should I still be here when it happens. Only thing holding me back right now is I don't own a 9mm anything and hesitate to add yet another different caliber. Thanks for the replies.
Shot one, loved it, haven't bought one because I'm afraid of what it would do to my healthy stash of 9mm ammo laugh

Mine is in the back of the safe for that reason.

No more "extra" USPSA stages right now for me

I handled one again today. Definitely want rather than an AR9. Just like it comes, no optic. And 16 cent ammo please.

I had an AR9 and a Ruger PC carbine.

Now I just have the PC carbine.

I got to handle one today at a LGS. Plastic traditional style stock takedown model. It is nice, only one they had. This particular store is known for years to be consistently overpriced but I'll think about it.

Cyber fistbump? 😊

I'd like to have one of the basic model Ruger PCC 9mm, that can handle Glock magazines..

Every time I've had the money, and looked, out of stock everywhere.
Posted By: navlav8r Re: Ruger PC carbine - 09/11/21
The PC 9’s come with an adapter to convert it to Glock magazines

That's what I understand. Makes for a pretty versatile combo gun for a Glock shooter.
Posted By: wildhobbybobby Re: Ruger PC carbine - 09/11/21
I have one of the basic models in 9mm, with a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot sight on it. I have it set up for use with Glock Magazines. I don't know how you could get the thing to malfunction. Mine has about 750 rounds through it so far without a bobble. It's quite accurate and you can knock falling plates down with it like nobody's business. It is a really fun gun that could also be used for something serious. The reversible charging handle is a very nice feature, as is the adjustable length of pull and Picatinny rail. I haven't used the takedown feature, but it could be handy, too.

I also had the same thing in .40 S&W and it worked just as well as the 9mm.
Posted By: viking Re: Ruger PC carbine - 09/11/21
I was thinking about getting one in 40 cal, however I never ran across one.
Posted By: Dogslife57 Re: Ruger PC carbine - 09/11/21
Yeah I was hoping for a 40 or maybe they would come out with a 45 soon. Really don't want to stock up another caliber.

15 yards offhand rapid fire with a Holosun

There's not much not to like.

On layaway, the 9mm free float railed model for Glock mags. Fits good.
Posted By: JRS3 Re: Ruger PC carbine - 09/17/21
10mm would be sweet for hogs.

.45ACP for Home Defense would be my choice.

Come on Ruger!

Of all the reviews I have watched, none really go into any detail about accuracy as in 100 yard accuracy. And I know, this is a pistol caliber and if you want something accurate get an AR-15, but was curious if anyone is shooting them at any real distance and how they perform.
Posted By: ShortMagFan Re: Ruger PC carbine - 09/17/21
I had one for a while and liked it. Killed a couple of pigs with it. Ultimately sent it down the road as I wasn't impressed with 9mm terminal performance out of the 16" barrel. Other than a theoretical benefit of using the same mags as my primary handgun I didn't see any advantage over an AR.

That said, I used all sorts of Glock mags with it (all Glock OEM), including some 33 rounders, and never had a hiccup. Shot it out to 100 yards and it was accurate enough. I had a Leupold 2.5x20 Heavy Duplex scope on it.

Why would anyone want a Politically Correct gun? Sounds kinda hinky to me. 😵

The last two times I had mine at the range were to work on loads with Power Pistol in 0.2 grain increments up to 6.8 which is 0.1 grain above Hornady’s max.
With the old Hornady truncated cone 115 hp 5 shot groups at just 50 yards were right at 1/2” low and were:
.7
.55
.35
.5

The 115 Speer Gold Dots were at the same POI:
.75
.75
.4
.75
So with both bullets 6.6 grs gave the best accuracy. I raised the scope a couple of clicks after those.

The last time I had it out, 50 yard groups (5 shots) were: 1.05 for the Hornady and .75 high. The Gold Dots were 1.4” and .5” high Then at 100 yards the Hornadys were1.6” and 1/2” low, while the GD’s gave a vertical string of almost 4” about 2” low. All the loads that day were with a Power Pistol charge of 6.6 grs which is just below Hornady’s max of 6.7 grs in their #10 manual. No malfunctions.

I wanted one in .40 when they brought them out. Buddy bought one and sent it back to Ruger twice because it wouldn’t feed from glock mags. Sample of one, but it was enough for me. Clunky as hell and ugly to boot. If it ran without fail I’d hold my nose and get one. But we all have different tastes!

Interesting.

A buddy shot my 9mm one and loved it, but is "invested" in .40 so he got one in .40 and it was great with Ruger mags but was a jam-o-matic with Glock mags as well. OEM 22,23 didn't matter.

They also make a more conventionally designed model without the barrel shroud. That’s the one I have.
Posted By: LeakyWaders Re: Ruger PC carbine - 09/19/21
I'm thinking about one too. Due to the glock conversion...was hoping glock would come out with a carbine but who knows when/if that would be.
Posted By: MOGC Re: Ruger PC carbine - 09/19/21
A 10mm version would get my money.
Posted By: LeakyWaders Re: Ruger PC carbine - 09/25/21
After reading this thread and watching numerous online reviews...I got one today, the flag version.

Yep, that's what I picked up when they first came out. Bought it online for $399! I use the glock mags, and even got a 50-round drum for it. A drum up in the mag well, with 2-4 spare 33-rd glock mags, we talking fire-power! wink

I prefer the HiPoint 45 JHP. Dont knock it until youve tried it. 4 inch groups offhand at 50 yds with a Vortex Sparc II optic.

The design would never allow it.

Not crazy about a Hipoint, but vortex sparc II has been a dang good red dot for me.
Posted By: varmintsinc Re: Ruger PC carbine - 09/26/21
Yep, pretty smooth gun, smoother shooting than any AR9 platform other than the cmmg banshee. Only real downside is the mag release is not optimal for a speed reload. Shot in ppc a couple times, kids and wife find it super easy to run, like a 10-22 on steroids.

147 WFN at 1200fps is solid performance for a woods gun and does better on intermittent barriers and windshield glass than you would expect.

Posted By: Pappy348 Re: Ruger PC carbine - 09/26/21
Know two guys with them. Both of them love it. Both are using Ruger mags, being Glockless.

One decided to try a similar, cheaper, .45 and was sorely disappointed by it. Groups fell apart at 50.
Posted By: LeakyWaders Re: Ruger PC carbine - 10/07/21
Shot mine yesterday for the first time. Loaded up 250 rounds in various glock magazines and mounted a romeo red dot after the first two magazines.

No issues at all. Wife and son and 10 year old future step-grandson hit steel and smiled.

It was fun.

Didn't want to start a new thread but just picked one of these things up. I've been wanting a 9mm carbine and ran across that with an easy mod, I can use my smith m&p mags, which I have plenty of. A tad heavy, I have an eotech 512 thats been laying around in mind but I think it may be too much weight wise. Anyway, looks like it will be a fun little gun.

Please explain.

If any mfg could do it, I would assume it would be Ruger to beef up the action.
Posted By: navlav8r Re: Ruger PC carbine - 10/30/21
I THINK but don’t quote me on it, the reason is that it is an unlocked bolt/blowback operated action. They used a tungsten (?) weight in the PC 9 bolt to give it the inertia needed to hold the bolt closed long enough fo allow the chamber pressure to drop to an acceptable level.
