Ah, 6.8 SPC straightened out.
6.8 SPC and the 40 S&W are based on the old 30 Remington shell case, rim/base size of ~.422".
The drawing shows .422" for the rim but they increased the base diameter to .440" to make a slightly rebated case similar to the 350 Legend.
Nothing really new, basically a recycled 100+ year old rimless .401 WSL.

think of it this way. the more chamberings that are available in the modern sporting rifle the harder the argument is to ban them.. especially when they're available in lots of non-military chamberings
JMO, but I think this makes better practical sense than the 9mm bastard that shoulda been a 357 AR. This ‘should’ offer more all around in the same niche, while possibly stepping on the bushmaster’s toes, as well. Since that’s the case, I’m sure it’s dead on arrival.
Something like a 200-220gr softpoint at 2100fps+ from an 18" AR barrel would actually be a pretty decent deer/hog rifle inside 200yds.
The 375 Socom is already here and functions perfectly at 35,000 psi. I shoot a 235 gr. Speer at 2200. Idholton's reply to this post is Right On!. One more project to keep gun guys "out of the kitchen and in the reloading room"

I don’t own a 350 or any of the SOCOMs….but I’d probably buy into this. It’s a great case size for alternate AR chamberings.
35 Legend, 360 Remington, now a 400 Legend.
Seems like an industry push to market to the "straight wall" states.
For now, my only "straight wall" rifle would be my 45-70.
That 360 Rem looks kind of nice, but why did they have to assign it a goofy name like "Buckhammer".....?

The 375 Socom is most likely my next build. Already have the .458 and love it. I was intrigued by the .375 when it first came out but then got sidetracked with other projects and life in general and the project took a back seat. Seeing this has reminded me that maybe I should finish getting the components and just build the damn thing!
That .375 Socom sounds good, but won’t be legal in straight-wall zones. The Buckwanger is the Goldilocks round for those who want something for single-shots and leverguns, just right, and meets the regs on case length, unlike some oldtimers.
There’s room for all of ‘em.
It's going to be difficult to get that 400 Legend to feed if they plan to run it in a double stack magazine. I have already been down that road.
It would work much better to run it in a center feeding single stack magazine, but with the feed lips that far inboard, the bolt carrier would probably need to be modified to clear the narrower feed lips.
