got new mini 14 shoots good ,but it shoots 5 in to the left at50 yards and 8 in. left at 100yards, got rear sight adj. all the way to the right ,it centers the shot. but dont really like rear sight that far over. looked gun over, found only one thing the crown is cut about a 1/3 deeper on the left side compared to the right. could that make it shoot that far to the left?am sureruger would recrown it if sent back, but dont really like shipping guns ,if dont have to .so do you think if recrown the barrel would it center the shot?

call Ruger and talk to them. Sounds like you may have a candidate for a new barrel.
Actually this is very common on the new and un-improved Mini. Some have fixed this problem by loosening the gas block screws, torquing them to 36 inch pounds with equal spacing between halves. Others have had to send it back to Ruger for rear site replacement.
You can go here to learn more about what makes the Mini tick.

ruger is really good on customer service. Some say because they have to utilize it often enough. grins.

If they'd have copied the M14 CORRECTLY, you could have moved the front sight over via set screw like on the combat gun, but once again as brilliant as Bill Ruger was, he was also that ignorant at times.

Yes, but most of the old "Tip & Tricks" data has been removed by the new owner. Many of the Mini lovers that produced much of this data have left or have been banned from the PU and moved on to Charlie6.
When I say the title to this thread I thought, "Well, at least it's hitting..."
don't mess with it yourself, first send it back to Ruger and tell them to fix it.

I'm sorry, but some funny sheet right there! Have Ruger fix it. Good one!
I got my first Mini-14 in 1977, and shot them for 17 years as a Peace Officer. I have many, many, OK too many guns, and, you guessed it. I have no desire to own a Mini-14.

Trade it for a Kel-Tec, or an AR.

Why do you think its funny?
I think you would get a lot closer to getting your rifle fixed by calling Ruger than listening to most of the ignorant replies on this forum.

Ruger May, I said "may" be able and willing to repair the rear site, but they will NOT repair, straighten, properly align and torque the gas block and screws. A properly adjusted gas block is a must for any kind of acceptable accuracy out of a Mini. As a mater of fact the gas block screws used to be staked so they could NOT be adjusted correctly.

Yep, I think recrowning the barrel would correct your problem. I've seen an uneven crown throw shots way off more than once and a recrown straighten it out.
Retorque, then recrown. See if the first fixes it.

If too cheap to do either, you could bend the front sight slightly to the side.
Shoot more to the right. LOL I won't fool with it go get another one and wrap that screwed up one around the sales person's head.
I won't argue with you because I have no idea who you are or what your background is. However I would have assumed that Ruger would make it good if the rifle rear sight was drifted all the way to one side and it was still shooting off. My experience with Ruger has been generally good, they seem to be a stand up company, for instance they gave me my money back on a 358Win when we both agreed the headspace was cut incorrectly. Well I agreed mostly but they paid.
Maybe you better talk to Ruger before you start tinkering, so should the tinkering not help, they will still honor the warrantee.
Good advice.
I have never had a gun company except for Beretta send a gun back to me telling me I was wrong and the gun was fine. So I sold it and never bought another Beretta.

Ruger is famous for this as far as the Mini is concerned.
Steve please share some of your experiences with us? Did you have a problem with them? I am just curious.
This is my main bitch. I have more, but it will take me some time to put it all together.

Thanks for sharing that story, that is unreal. I like the way the little rifle feels in my hands, but this story sort of puts the icing on the cake regards not wanting to own one again. That is a sad tale.

I have come to the conclusion that the best way to shoot the 7.62 x 39 is out of an AK or SKS rifle. If you want to shoot it in an AR I think that the AR Performance guy makes an upper that is supposed to work. For my money to hunt deer with its a 223 using a good bullet.
Remember this rifle he is talking about is a 1980 issue. 31 years later we see better gear. Same as automobiles.
I did not see that or just did not understand (my internet reading skills suck at times). My first Mini 14 I paid $139.00 for at a big box store in Reno Nevada in 1977 or 1978. Enjoyed the rifle it was cheap to shoot, I wasted a truck load of Jack Rabbits with it. I have always enjoyed the little rifles but never have had one that was that accurate. Never had a firing pin break in the ones I have owned. To your other point 31 years is a long time to hold a grudge!

Correct, but not in the Mini. My son purchased a New Mini-30 Tactical several months ago. This was a total POS. The charging handle would literally fall off and away from the bolt when pulled all the way back. I called Ruger and they said to send it back as they had a bad batch and would fix it for free. When it came back it did the same thing. Ruger CS told me it was within specs and there was nothing more they could do.

Ok so you got a lemon, same as automobiles.
I have a 2010 mdel SS ruger mini HB with tuning barrel in .223 that will put holes all on and around a quarter all day at 300 yds.= 1.5 inch That is the best semi auto I have ever owned and I've seen a few over the last 40 years in many different calibers. I've posted pictures of it and the targets in the AR posts.
why do you keep buying them if you have so many problems? Seems like your just looking for trouble.

I don't! I have one and only one and I will never buy another Ruger. As I said in an earlier post, my son bought one. The dumb ass!
Back to the OP and his sight issue. Here are a couple threads with the same problem and how to fix it.

Not really a "Lemon" just another Ruger. This issue is pretty common actually. Sad, but common.

I don't think your going to change the world Steve, people are still going to buy them. Next I have sent guns back to several major manufacturers, they all make lemons these days more so than most expect. I think we all get it regards the firing pin, that right there is single good enough reason never to own one again, why I can remove an AR firing pin in less than 1 minute. The poor OP probably has his rifle in the classified right about now at half price....
