I'm considering putting optics on my LMT carbine. The rifle is currently bone stock. Thinking about a 1-4x power, or a red dot sight, can't decide. I don't use the rifle for anything beyond plinking, but looking for recommendations for optics in the event I decided to use it for a HD/SD weapon or needed to pull it out if we see a zombie invasion.

Any thoughts?

Trijicon makes a nifty little fiber optic/tritum open reflex sight for about $500. Don't have to turn it on, no batteries to go dead, small and very lightweight. Should work great for Zombies out to 200 yards or so, as long as we get the slow kind.

ACOG's are excellent also altho frightenigly expensive as well as fixed power. I put a 3x on a M&P 15T and like it alot even though it was about a $900 idea. Can't say anything bad about it once I got used to it. I guess much depends on if you want magnifcation or not.
NightForce 1-4 with FC-2 Reticle, JP Acog or Aimpoint T-1 are what I usually use...

I mount either a Trijicon RMR or an Insight MRDS at a 45 for all my scoped AR's...

The thing that I don't like about the Trijicon Reflexes is that the amber triangle doesn't show up that well for me.
The strange thing about the 3x ACOGs is that due to the tube construction, it has a smaller field of view than the 4x.

I sort of prefer a dot or triangle that is not dazzlingly bright so the Trijicon works for me. Just personal preference, I'm sure.

Smaller field of view the 3x ACOG's have indeed, but when you learn to leave both eyes open (the get used to it part) this gets to be sort of a moot point. I did not like mine much until I learned to do this.

I did my research, would like to have an Aimpoint CompM3 and Larue mount but didn't want to spring for that much dough, so I went with a Lucid HD7 red dot sight. If I utilized the AR for HD/SD I would have bit the bullet on a higher end optic, but it's basically a toy/plinker for me at this point. Maybe I'll upgrade down the road.

Thanks for the replies fellas.
