Been looking for a complete upper with 1 in 8 twist and 20 inch barrel, a gun shop in Florida can sell me a complete upper using Rock River parts with a Wilson stainless steel 20 inch barrel and Wilde chamber for $499.00 Found a local gun shop that can build me a complete upper using a Green mountain 22 inch stainless steel barrel with a Wilde chamber for the same price but added cost of local sales tax. I can save about twenty bucks if I go with a 20 inch non stainless 5.56 barrel. Any advice would be appreciated.
no clue on green mountain on an AR, do know its rare for a wilson to not shoot decently.

know green mountain are better than TC factory tubes in MZ by far.

Thats about all I can ad.
Wilson barrels are the real deal. I've never seen one of there uppers not shoot well.
wilson combat or wilson barrels? 2 totally different things.

Wilson combat paying for name IMHO, wilson barrels an ok barrel, expect 3/4 MOA on average with a good load.
If IIRC, the Green Mountain barrel probably would make it a barrel from the now defunct ICE Arms company.

At which point, I would walk away at a brisk pace, they have significant QC issues. I have one thier barrels, the gas block shelf is oversized to the point it won't take standard parts of any company I tried. Had to go with a clamp on block.

I built on two of their barrels, both had the same issue. One barrel has been shot by a buddy, seems to be MOA-ish, but haven't recorded anything on it.

If you look up Ice Arms on AR-15.com, you'll find a couple of long running theads on the company and problems.

given the choice between paying list price for a Wilson Combat barrel and knowing I would get a decent barrel and getting a Green mountain SS barrel for $50, I would pay list price for the Wilson.
Have we decided the OP question was Wilson Combat or Wilson?

I'm still putting money that he is asking about Wilson.

OTOH where is the link for a 50 buck green mountain tube? For 50 bucks I'll buy one for my cheap buddy and see what happens. Be a good test cheap enough.
that was a rhetorical question.
Green Mountain is an OEM supplier to COLT (694X Series). They make very good barrels. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase one.
Wilson as first choice. Also, why a 22 inch barrel on a 5.56?
Rock River does not use Wilson Combat, they use Wilson.

Got a source for your info that Colt uses GM? Cause the last time I saw a video tour of the plant, they made them in house. It's been reported that BCM uses GM but this is the first I've heard of a Colt using them.

No source necessary...

Just take a look at any 694X rifle and you'll find G stamped into the chamber swell. In this case, it doesn't stand for good to go. Only barrels that are destined for use on military carbines are required to be made in house.
One of my most accurate chrome lined barrels is supposedly a green mountain. Rainier Arms had some 16" rifle gassed Rock Creek cut rifled barrels a while back for $300ish. I really really wish I would have bought one.
Wilson hands down !

I am referring to Wilson, not Wilson combat.

He also uses 20 inch barrels which cost about twenty bucks less, I will go with a 20 inch barrel, I have received imput on other forums that are very positive toward Green mountain barrels. One of my local gun shops told me that I need to spend at least a grand for a decent upper, said that a five hundred dollar upper won't shoot any more accurate than what I have now which is a RRA Lar 15 with 16 inch barrel, shot a group that measured 1.9 inches at 300 yards with a handload, he may be right about better accuracy cause that would be hard to beat but I need an 1 in 8 twist to shoot the heavier bullets and it's always nice to have a second upper. I will be attending a gun show in Reno next weekend and will probably see plenty of uppers on display.
LOL on the grand part.... those folks don't have a clue...
did Green Mtn make the CVA muzzleloader barrels?

Please buy it and let us know how it shoots, everybody gets a wilson or something! BCM barrels are Green Mtn barrels, I think they are solid 2MOA barrels.
