Just curious how many here are waiting on a tax stamp for their suppressor. Obviously trying to beat the 41F deadline last July. I've got one from April and another from June. How many you got and when did you send off the form?
Posted By: Yondering Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/08/16
SBR instead of a suppressor for me this time, but I'm waiting since June. (We had about a 2 week window between our SBR law going into effect and 41P.)

I originally assumed it would be about a year's wait, but now it looks hopeful for the end of this year.
Posted By: BamBam Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/08/16
I'm waiting on four suppresses and one SBR. Did two suppresses and 1 SBR Second week of July. Then I did to suppress last week of July. I was told approximately eight months.
Posted By: TXRam Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/08/16
Waiting on two from March 25, one from May 9 and a form 1 from June 20.

I'm close to 8 months on my March forms, my money is on >12 months for June and July submissions.

I'm guessing I won't see anything for a year.
Posted By: Ruger280 Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/08/16
My June submission is for an element 2 rimfire suppressor. I was really looking forward to using it before the end of deer season (not on deer of course grin ) Oh well always next season.
Posted By: TWR Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/08/16
Cousin got his back last month, it took 7 months.

Don't give up, it'll be like Christmas morning when your dealer calls.
Posted By: deere2320 Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/08/16
My first one took 7 month's to clear it was submitted February second who now's how long it was submitted July 7.

After posting this, figured I'd check in with the ATF on mine first 2... My Silencerco Omega was approved on Oct 31, Sparrow still pending. Then, on the way home, FFL called and said he received my stamp today!

So that was 7 1/2 months!
Posted By: local_dirt Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/08/16
One rimfire suppressor (Dead Air Mask) from March still floating in the breeze, but I believe that's mostly because of where I purchased.

3 others already at FFL, just waiting on stamps. (Another Dead Air Mask, Silencerco Omega, & Hybrid).

Update. Long lost Dead Air Mask now enroute as of today.

Are you saying you bought it in March and it is just now shipping to your dealer? What happened?
Posted By: local_dirt Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/10/16
Yes. Exactly what I'm saying. The dealer has been jerking my chain (as well as many others). Finally got it shipped after threatening him with legal action.

In any case, it's on the way to my FFL.
Posted By: TXRam Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/10/16
Ouch! That sucks!
Posted By: local_dirt Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/10/16
Yeah, I'd finally had enough. Even with a duplicate coming, I don't like the feeling when somebody's blowing colored smoke at me and I know it. He was swapping around serial numbers and doing other dumb stuff.

When I get to that point, I'll spend a couple to several grand to make a point with a dumbass.

I have had two very BAD experiences with Class III dealers. Like...bad. Really bad.

I have one more can in the works and then I'm done. Centerfire pistol.

Whispers this may pass with Trump...

Hearing Protection Act of 2015

This bill amends the Internal Revenue Code to: (1) eliminate the $200 transfer tax on firearm silencers, and (2) treat any person who acquires or possesses a firearm silencer as meeting any registration or licensing requirements of the National Firearms Act with respect to such silencer. Any person who pays a tax on a silencer after October 22, 2015 may receive a refund of such tax.

The bill amends the federal criminal code to preempt state or local laws that tax or regulate firearm silencers.

They can keep my money just let me walk in, buy a suppressor and walk out with it. I'll even fill out a 4473 on it.

I need a centerfire pistol can, too. One that'll handle 9mm (and .45 ACP maybe). I think I'm also done then.

It's just a muffler, we shouldn't even need a 4473. You don't have to do title paperwork on your car's muffler, why should you on a gun?

I think the only reason silencers are considered firearms by the ATF was just a work around so they could regulate and tax them; if that's eliminated, there's no reason for any of the paperwork. It should be just like buying a scope or any other accessory.

I am pretty sure in legal-eeze that means 4473.

Curious where a home built would fit in there.

I'm told the NRA has a 6 hour meeting with the Donald scheduled to discuss 4 items-- 1. suppressor requirements 2. SBR requirements. 3&4 concerning veteran issues
Posted By: TXRam Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/14/16
Hope that's a constructive meeting!
Posted By: Ruger280 Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/15/16
WooHoo! I just got the call on my April 1st submission, Omega 30cal. One down and one to go!
Posted By: local_dirt Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/15/16
Will be very interested in a range report on the Omega. Have one in waiting at FFL for a month and a half to two months now.
Posted By: deere2320 Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/15/16
I have shot my Omega on a 204,556,6.8 spc,6X6.8 and very impressed.
Posted By: Ruger280 Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/15/16
Deere, do you change the end cap for the smaller calibers or just leave as is?
Posted By: TXRam Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/15/16
Just picked mine up Sunday, ready to give a try!
Posted By: deere2320 Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/15/16
I have just left it as is but I do have the flat cap in the 223 diameter and the flat cap in the 30 cal just haven't changed them yet.
Posted By: local_dirt Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/15/16
All this Omega talk is getting me antsy. My 7.62 stamps should be clearing any time now, hopefully.
Posted By: wareagle700 Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/16/16
I keep the .30 cal flat cap on my Omega, even with .223 it still sounds great. I'm afraid if I swapped end caps between rifles I would eventually have a brain fart and send a .308 round through that .223 cap.
Posted By: boatboy Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/16/16
I would like to see sbr changes

Not sure they are worth a stamp but no stamp I would be,playing with them

If a,change bet 10in uppers would be a hot item

Yeah that is a good point, that would be a little messy eek

Well, at least the good thing with AR's is SBR'ing one lower, and then ability to have multiple short bbl'ed uppers.
Posted By: supercrewd Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/16/16
This one is a silly pistol, but it should make a great rifle in about a month (hopefully).

My Form 4 with Trust for a SAS Reaper MX
Check cashed 3/21
Corrections mailed back on 11/04
Approved 11/08
Waiting on my dealer to call and pick it up. Gun season opens Saturday and I'm leaving tomorrow evening for my lease go figure!!
Posted By: Ruger280 Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/17/16
Congrats! What did you have to correct?
Posted By: TN deer hunter Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/17/16
My FFL dealer's license number had changed since the Form 4 was submitted and they had to give the valid number.
Posted By: TXRam Re: Suppressor Stamp - 11/23/16
Just got my stamp for my Silencerco Sparrow. Paperwork was submitted on March 25 along with the paperwork for my Omega, which came in a couple of weeks ago. Based on those two, 7.5-8 months now for approvals. Still have a Form 4 for an Osprey and a Form 1 for an SBR outstanding.
Posted By: hanco Re: Suppressor Stamp - 12/03/16
Got mine in 7 months

I sure hope they talk about removing gun-smithing from the ITAR.

one only suppressor 7-1/2-8 months
shipped from stock to the dealer and my dealer was perfectly willing to rent me range time to play with it.
Posted By: carlm Re: Suppressor Stamp - 12/24/16
I mailed the first one on a new trust on 4/15/16, and picked it up yesterday. Ihave another about a month later, and one from July after 41F.
Posted By: TXRam Re: Suppressor Stamp - 12/25/16
Cool!

I have one left from mid-May, was hoping to have it and my SBR form 1 approvals by end of Jan.
Posted By: carlm Re: Suppressor Stamp - 12/25/16
I think your expectation is realistic. Seems like 8 months is the norm at present.
Posted By: Coyotejunki Re: Suppressor Stamp - 12/25/16
BATFE cashed my check on 4-15, approved on 11-27, and my FFL says he still hasn't received it from BATFE. I called them Friday asked nicely if it was mailed, and the jerk just kept harshly stating they have 30 days to mail it.

As I and at least one other fire member (Flave) have found out the hard way (and now you), there are some douchenozzles in the suppressor business.

Very true. Luckily here in the Liberal Capitol of Texas, we have 2 really good dealers--Silencer Shop and Capitol Armory. I've used Capitol Armory for my last 5 or 6 purchases, and will continue to do so.

My latest purchase was mailed May 10th and I'm still waiting.

Word to the wise. Just don't use Colonial Armory.

Ruger280, did you ever post a range report on the Omega .30 cal?
Posted By: carlm Re: Suppressor Stamp - 09/12/17
I picked up my Sparrow SS last Wednesday. I mailed it on 7/23/16. It went pending on 8/1/16. The dealer got it the Thursday before Labor Day, but did not notify me until the day after Labor Day.

FYI- the number I found to call NFA to check status of your Form 4's. 7 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. West Virginia. EST.

304-616-4500

Posted By: local_dirt Re: Suppressor Stamp - 09/14/17
Called NFA today. My stamps are a long way out. Partly because of my trust and partly because of errors in the adminstration of such.

I will pass on a couple facts I learned during a long conversation with a very nice person at NFA.

1. August 2016 Form 4 approvals are nearing completion.
2. Single person Form 4's are processed faster than trusts.
Posted By: local_dirt Re: Suppressor Stamp - 08/31/18
Picked up Silencerco Omega and stamp today. Docs signed March.2017. Have been doing my cans in a trust. This one was no different.
17 months.

All background checks now being done by FBI.

Average times start to finish now running 4-7 months, possibly longer with trusts, according to my FFL/LGS owner.

Happy to finally get the Omega home. The Ruger Predator 6.5 Creed (among others) has been patiently waiting.

I bet you'll like that combo. Different suppressors but same rifle for me; I find it very pleasant to shoot suppressed, and noticeably quieter than the AR stuff.
Posted By: local_dirt Re: Suppressor Stamp - 09/01/18
Yondering, thanks. Looking forward to getting out and shooting it. Have quietly and methodically been buildimg a decent stash of good ammo for the Creed while waiting on the can. All bought on sale.

Hornady 143 gr ELD-X
Hornady American Whitetal 129 gr Interlock
Hornady 140 gr American Gunner BTHP

Maybe pick up some more if I fimd good deals on Labor Day sales.
