Does it use a 7.62x39 bolt ?
Does it need a long barrel to run efficiently?
18" be fine ?
Classic firearms has stainless, fluted, barrels for @ 122 bucks plus shipping.

Who has one out there ?
Like it enough to recommend ?
What cartridge does it come close to duplicating?

I'm relatively new to the Grendel myself, but am in the process of building a pair of short (14" and 12.5") barrels for SBR use. Based on results I've read of 12.5" Grendel ballistics, it stays supersonic farther than a 16" 5.56, has less wind drift, and hits harder at 200 yards than the 5.56 does at 50 yards. That's comparing 75/77gr in the 5.56 and 123gr in the Grendel.

Depending on the chamber, the Grendel uses either a "type 1" bolt (7.62x39, .125" bolt face depth) or "type 2" bolt (.136" face depth). The Type 2 is much more common now I believe.

It's not a bad idea to buy the bolt and barrel as a combo so you have the right bolt face depth.

I have 2 Grendels. One with an 18" the other a 20". With identical loads the 18" is 10 fps slower than the 20". Benchmark is the powder of choice for both of those rifles. Both are sub MOA with multiple loads and bullet weights. Plenty for deer out to 200 yards. Light recoil so the wife and grandsons enjoy shooting them.

as most of my shots in Georgia are under 150 yards I went with the 6.8, however for out west, longer shots I would have done the grendel. I think its a better round for distance shooting, the 6.8 is similar to the 250 savage in power.

I might be putting my 18'' upper up for sale shortly.

I'm going to go with a 20" , stainless, straight fluted, 1:8, 5r, barrel from classic.
Gotta find a gen 2 bolt too.

Ordered a bolt thru the group buy.
I'm just gonna order a piece here and there.
I'm in no hurry to assemble anything yet.

I went with an stainless 18" barrel in my AR and had a Mini MkX Mauser rebarrelled in 6.5 Grendel and both are absolutely tack drivers, especially the Mini Mk X. The first three shots out of it at 100 yds cut one ragged hole. The AR will shoot groups under an inch (100 yds of course). It seems like CFE 223 is made just for the 6.5 Grendel with IMR 8207 running a close second. I believe that is what most are using in theirs. Come on over the http://www.65grendel.com/forum/
