I swore I would never post one of these but what do you think is the perfect scope for an AR10? I had a NXS 3-15 but it was chunky, just curious as to opinions. I picked up two this week due to buyers market and not sure what I want.
It's not going to address your "chunky" concern, but I think the USO 1.8-10 is nearly ideal.

You could always go with the NXS compact.
I was looking hard at the compact but thinking I want FFP. Considering a PST II 2-10 as well. Never had this issue before.
I have the Bushnell LRHS on mine but will replace it with the LRTS. I think it's the perfect size and mag range.
Greatly depends on the intended use but something in the 2-10 range is a good all around scope.
I have 2 for mine depending on use, the PA 2.5x CQB and Leupold VX6 1-6 Circle Firedot.
I ordered 2- gen II PST 3-15 through the mil plan, so we will see. Thanks
Leupold 4x16 40mm scope.
I don't think it will help on the chunky part, but SWFA is running one hell of a deal on the Burris XTR II's right now. A 2.5-10 would be an outstanding fit...
It depends on what you bought...

Plain jane pencil barrel generic AR-10? In .308win??
Configuration is going to have something to do with an "ideal" scope...

There are 16" barreled AR-10(T)s out there, and 20" and 24" Ts. Maybe you have a GA Precision AR-10, or a Knight's?

Point is, what're your expectations? The Aero-Precision one piece mounts are a great choice and enable lots of mounting flexibility.
Aluminum tactical rings are also very good, but the cantilevered Aero is really a great value.

A match quality AR-10 can really perform with a quality scope. Athlon Optics (I am a dealer), has their new Ares series in 2.5-15x and 4.5-27x. These are 30mm tube FFP, illum reticles w/moa or mil-rad matched turrets, argon gas filled and top quality lens systems and internals sourced from Light Optical Works of Japan. Athlon assembles these in China and they sell for $800-$850. Lifetime Transferable warranty with all warranty and service work done in Kansas USA. I have mounted my Athlon Cronus BTR 4,5-29x 56mm in a 34mm Aero-Precision base on my 20" GA Precision 10(T) and it is a real fine match. The Cronus BTR is comparable to the S&B PM-II, NF ATACR, Kahles tactical and the Razor II which all sell for lots more than $1800 which the Cronus costs. I also have a 16" barreled Eagle Arms AR-10, and another GAP 10(T) w/18" carbine gas setup. If looks matter, a shorter bodied scope has better apearance on a carbine. the Cronus BTR with A-P mount will deliver though, but looking at 13lbs at least. No AR-10 is gonna be lightweight. Mostly because of the boltcarrier group and ammo.

Really comes down to your rifle's capabilities. The leupold mk4 4.5-14 is nice & compact, as is the mk4 1.5-5x. Both cost a lot of money and the optics are not too exciting.
A 4.5-27x like the Athlon Ares or Midas will enable fast response with great eye relief and lots of illum reticle settings. On a plain carbine, hard to beat the Burris 1-4x Tac-30 or other upgraded similar scopes in Burris' line. Athlon will soon have a 1-8x short-bodied tactical scope, and has 1-6x now for about $550. I would wait for the 1-8x, maybe go with a Burris until it is introduced...
I am in initial stages of playing with a SWFA 1-4 on mine. I think it is going to work really well based on initial testing. Plus they are on sale.

I have this on AR's and like it. The mil program was a 6-month wait so ended up taking a chance with the Toric 4-16. This is an 18" medium weight so will be used for targets and or is light enough I would take it on certain hunts. The Toric glass is good and so far the turrets are crisp. I'll abuse it more then comment on reliability.
2-12 VX6 Leupold . 2x is Excellent FOV for hunting running feral hogs and 12x for the sniper ear shot.
For an AR-15 I like the Burris XTR II 2-10x42, for an AR-10 I like the Burris XTR II 3-15x50.

I have a Trijicon Accupoint 3-9 x 40 on mine with a quick attach (LaRue I think) mount. It's been a great setup.
Hi everybody! I think this article can be useful to you!

Are you sure it's a Toric as Tract doesn't list a 4-16 in the Toric line?................Maybe a Tekoa??

You should really take a look at the 3-10 Nightforce SHV; great scope & not too "clunky" at all. I have a couple of them on AR-15's.

If money is no object a Steiner MXi 3-15x50.
I have a Leupold VX-5HD 1-5x24mm. Near true 1x in close. Still gets out to 5x which is good enough for the ranges I may shoot realistically. Not too huge, weighs about 13 ounces. Has about 4 inches of eye relief. And has decent illumination.

3-9X is extremely popular for a reason. If you want to spend more money, go for a scope with a higher zoom ratio.
