Any thoughts? Is this just a barrel swap from a 6.5 Creedmoor or is there more to consider?

You could swap the barrel without issue to a 6.5 CM.

But, if I had a .308, I'd rather just get a 6.5 upper and have both ready, depending on what mood I'm in for the day.
Thanks. Tempted...
Yes just a barrel swap, but they also sell it in 6.5 Creedmoor already.

I have a gen 1 and am very happy with it. There are several things about it I like better than most other 308 AR rifles on the market now.
Thanks. Imagine some patience would result on a sale price on a 6.5 someday. Luckily the 308 sold out today already. The kid and wife still get Christmas. LOL
Yup. They had the 6.5 version in stock just a few weeks ago for $700 or $800.

I'm not sure what the exact differences are between the gen 1 and gen 2, but here's a pic of my gen 1 for reference. The receivers are much sleeker than other options; it's as close to an oversized AR15 as you can get IMO, as the pic shows. 18" 308 on top, 16" 5.56 on bottom. The weight is pretty close on both rifles.

Yondering, whare you using for glass and mounts there?
That's the Leupold 3-9x Mark AR, mil-dot on the 308 and Firedot TMR on the 5.56. Leupold IMS mounts on both as well.
I haven't had the trouble with these Leupolds that others often discuss on this board, and I do dial them, but mine are all several years old and I don't tend to throw my rifles either. smile

I am trying out a 1-4x SWFA with the mil-quad DM reticle on that 308 now, because I moved the Mark AR to a light SBR 6.5 Grendel setup that's really handy. I haven't made up my mind about the SWFA yet, it has it's own pros and cons compared to my Leupolds.
I am convinced that I need one or two. Thanks Yondering.
PSA customer service has been so poor that I will never purchase from them again.
Plenty of stories out there of customers stuck with the dirty end of the stick.
Buyer beware.
I've had great communication from PSA, plus, their guns have ran and shot well for me, gonna grab one of the AR 10's when they re-stock, can't have too many good house/truck/tractor guns around.

Of all the suppliers that I've dealt with on gun parts, I like PSA the absolute least................they are usually difficult to talk to & if you finally get someone, they don't always have the right info & the only real "problem" I've had with them is a very sloooooooooow credit on a return on a barrel that was not right.

But some of their deals are virtually impossible to beat elsewhere if you are careful & what you get works for you....................that said, they are not my source for any kind of premium or semi-premium parts.

MM
Well,
I am now months into a Charlie Foxtrot with them over a barrel so badly rifled that high pressure was blowing primers. Got a return tag and sent barrel back. Month and a half later after repeated calls trying to find out what the status was, they shipped the same barrel back to me. After calling again with a half hour wait on the phone, they said if I shipped it back at my cost they would replace the barrel. I asked for the proper paperwork ID to put with the barrel and was told to just mark "return" on the package. To be sure the return was handled this time I also included a short letter stating what had occurred and who had authorized the return/ replacement and also taped a card with my name and contact info to the barrel... Now... after another call and 20 minute wait for customer service rep and more time waiting for them to figure things out... NOW... PSA says the barrel is probably lost in the warehouse and they have no idea what they can do.
F PSA, they have ripped me off for a barrel, cost me a shipping charge and wasted hours of my time trying to get resolution over the junk they sold me.
Never again will I consider their products.
If that is acceptable service to you, then good luck.

I gotta admit I think it looks better after I did my paint trick to it. wink

I purchased a few items from PSA.
One was a stainless 18" 223 fluted barrel. It arrived dinged on the muzzle end due to poor packing.
I emailed them and included a picture. They sent a return authorization and sent me a new barrel that arrived very well packaged.

I also purchased an AR-10 upper and stripped lower from them.
No complaints here.

Appreciate the continued input. Bummer to hear the bad with the good. I don't know anyone that knows anything about these rigs so you guys are it. Though tempted to go 6.5 I know very well the ol' 308 will get'r done. Sky's the limit it seems, I'd like to keep it down though, maybe a grand is ok. What to avoid?
I have a gen I that I picked up on sale for $550. It's a CM 18" barrel, and a good shooter. Never had a problem with PSA, and I've bought 6-8 rifle kits from them.
I've bought a bunch of stuff from PSA myself, and rarely had an issue. When I did (rail sections missing from a handguard kit) I called and they sent replacements with no fuss.

I will say their barrels are not premium quality for the most part, but they've always shot reasonably well for me, meaning I expect to be able to find at least a few loads that'll shoot sub-MOA if I'm buying their barrel, based on past experience. If you want a premium 6.5 barrel, consider just buying their 308 upper and replacing the barrel.

Reattack

How are the 6.5 Creedmoor uppers shooting?
I’d love to see how the 6.5 creedmore holds velocity from a short barrel!
I've had good luck with PSA and just bought a bunch of XM80 for $9.99/shipped so at $699, the PSA10 Gen 2 was kind of like an "add-on" purchase! wink Not expecting much and will most likely just top it with a red-dot and use it as a short-range fun gun.....
They have a lower for $199 and an Upper for $399 today, free shipping.
Still watching. A couple bolt-actions have gotten in the way... Sure liking the looks of the Savage MSR 10s though.
PSA is representative of all the “manufacturers” of cheap ARs. Lots of folks will do just fine with them. It when they go wrong, they go really wrong. And there’s no way of knowing which it’ll be for you.

I’ve found that if you call and scream at the manager of one of their store fronts several times a day for a week they’ll usually get something done. But you’ve gotta be a lot more mean than most people are used to.
I have a few PSA items that I have used. Lowers which work fine, maybe a BCG, and an AR9 which really runs well and I am happy with it (actually bought it in separate pieces). I have no issues with what I have received.
I have a blackout that shoots factory HSM 125S into an inch and dumps brass into a pile you could cover with a trashcan lid.
That being said, they are the Masters of the lost leader. Rarely have sale items in stock and athe staff is poorly trained in store.
