Look, before y'all jump me for making the purchase in the first place, let me just say that I originally bought this thing back in 2000. That's 2 years before I found 24hourcampfire.com. I've grown a lot since then.

When I bought my first Mini-14, I also bought a scope mount for it. Why I didn't just buy the Ranch version in the first place is beyond me, but there it is. The rifle itself has always served me well. I don't shoot it much, but it goes bang and can knock over cans at 50 yards with the factory sites. It will take out a feral cat or coyote. It isn't the most accurate rifle in the cabinet, but is better than the horror stories some guys have of Mini-14's from that era.

I bought a B-Square sight with the idea of having a removable target sight. I spent a month one Saturday afternoon trying to get it sighted in. The POA moved around all over the place. I finally gave up, took off the mount and buried it in a box.

My son purchased a 9mm carbine a while back and started tricking it out. He put a red dot sight on it, and was plinking cans at 80 yards with it. I remembered I had a spare red dot, and thought to myself: "Hey, maybe I can make the B-Square work on the Mini-14."

So here is my question: Has anyone had any kind of luck with the B-Square Mini-14 scope mount? Is it hopeless or is there a trick I didn't know back in 2000? Is there a better mounting system for a non-Ranch Mini-14?

In my humble opinion, the B Square is always gonna be inaccurate.

Your Mini14 is a great weapon with open sights for what it was designed for. Even the Ranch Rifles are not accurate enough to suit me with their solid mounts.

I did shoot one of their Mini14 Target Rifles that was accurate, but heavy.

I bought one of those to go along with my very early Mini-14 back inn the Dark Ages. I got it to shoot as well as the rifle was capable of (2-3MOA) by tightening everything down until I thought it was going to break. I also drilled and tapped another hole in the front of the rail so I could apply more force to hold it in place using a longer screw.

It would still change zero over time, so I took it off and sold both it and the Mini-14 to another geek at a gunshow.

I would seriously inquire as to whether or not there is currently a market for old Minis.

Put a strut on it!

Yep, they say a strut does wonders.

Don't apologize or be embarrassed about the Mini. It does what it's supposed to.

Scope mount options that work for yours....

I had a B-Square mount on an early Mini, it's sitting in a drawer somewhere. S+K makes one that replaces the rear sight and cams down on a set screw at the rear. I had my gunsmith drill and tap the receiver for a forward mounting screw. This is solid enough to carry the rifle using the scope as a handle, but, no back up irons. Weaver used to make a similar product that offered a lower mounting position. Had good results with that one too, but, sold it with the rifle. I like Mini-14's. Fun plinkers like a 10-22 but louder.

I bought a used Mini-14 that has a Williams Gun Sight scope mount. It attaches to the side of the receiver in two places. There's enough clearance you can still use the peep sights.
The scope and rings will detach from the mount as one unit.
