Ordered a LaRue 6.5 Grendel Ultimate Upper Kit with Lower today. Just curious what factory ammo folks are running with the Grendel.
Federal has a rebate right now of $50 bucks off a case of Fusion MSR 6.5 Grendel 120 Grain Soft Point. So, after rebate, $159.90 for 10 boxes from Target Sports USA. That seems reasonable.
I can't help much with the better factory ammo, since I load my own, but I can tell you that for cheap ammo, the Wolf military classic (100gr FMJ, laquered steel case) is a lot better than I thought it would be. It shoots ~1-1.5 moa in my SBR, which is a lot better than my experiences with cheap Wolf steel case in other calibers.
If I bought factory ammo, the first thing I'd look for is a box of Hornady loaded with the 123 ELD-M. That's an excellent Grendel bullet in handloads, anyway.
I have a .458 SOCOM I'm going to use for deer this year, but I'm developing an interest in a Grendel for that, so I'm interested in what you come up with.
Buds had Hornady 6.5 Grendel 123gr ELD-Match Black on sale for $16.80 a box so I bought 10 boxes. I'll let ya' know.
I've bought a couple of 200 round cans of Hornady American Gunner with a 123 green HP, mostly for the brass. The only problem is one gun really likes it to the tune of 3/4" and another will do 1-1 1/4. $139 at Sportsmans Whorehouse. Sort of derailed my reloading for the time being. YMMV.
