Evidently Winchester has out a new .35 cartridge based on a straight .223 case using a .35 bullet. Debut at shot show? One of the AR makers will have a model out to handle it, but I don't know yet which one. 200 grain bullet at 2000 fps.

I'm certain it was developed to fit certain state law requirements for deer hunting. Might even be a hit with .35 caliber or AR afficiandos, though I can't tell what it does that a .450 Bushmaster or .458 Socom won't do bigger and better (albeit with more recoil). Guess the .350 could shoot a bit flatter (arguably).

I've only got a .30 caliber can, so I don't have a dog in the race.

I'm too lazy to read that entire thread, though if anyone wanted to enlighten me, I'm all ears.
Hah! I suggested the same a couple years ago. Darn, should have patented the idea. Oh well.

Should be a hard hitting round - wonder if it can use 5.56 mags?
I don't think it will be any flatter than 450 and pretty sure not a 458, but it sure has a lot less recoil if the advertising chart is for real.
Does about 2,100fps from a 16" barrel with a 180.

Tex, great minds think a like, I just didn't realize there were so many great minds! laugh
I got as far as seating bullets in an expanded 223, but didn't want to screw with trying to get it to feed in an AR.

I understand it works best with the new 300 BLK magazines - mags with the front vertical rib removed.
It's pretty close to .35 Remington ballistics, which suits me; I've shot an old Marlin and have been impressed with how it drops animals, AND makes a good blood trail.
Interesting to see a number of wildcat cartridges becoming factory loads these last couple years. Variations on this 357/223 chambering have been fooled with in ARs for a while now, some with better results than others. I did my own but based on the 6.8 case and using 357 Herrett dies and reamer in a 1:14 twist .358 bore (I call it the 358 Herrett, very imaginative of course); that one does match 35 Rem ballistics with the 200gr FTX at 2,150 or so.

Nothing wrong with something like this for a thick woods gun; in the right setup it'll be a deer killing machine.
How does it compare with a 358 Winchester?
Looks pretty neat. It will be interesting how it shows in the AR market.
I'll be curious to see who first has barrels available. I'm tempted to build one.
I have been talking with my nephew about this cartridge. Though it's been developed as a hunting cartridge, if loaded with pistol powder it might be a great cartridge in an AR pistol. It should perform well at subsonic speeds with pistol bullets that already exist.

Thoughts?
I don't know about the brass that Winchester is going to use, but if you use .223 cases you'll have to inside ream them to get real heavies seated.
I am wondering if a special magazine has to be used? Next I wonder for 200 yards and under how it compares to the 6.8SPC. I could convert my 6.8 to a 350 it might be a better short range Deer cartridge.
Of course the 357/6.8 would be a better cartridge. The 6.8 has about 7 more grains of case capacity. However, it wouldn't be a straight case necked up to .357 thereby defeating the whole purpose of the 350L.

I had forgotten a couple nice features of the 350. One is that it uses .223 shellholders and two is that it doesn't need a custom sizing die - you just use a .38, 357 or Max die. For seating you can use whatever seater came with your die if you shoot regular pistol bullets.
How does it compare to a 358 Norma?

smile
It looks very cool
But if it's there to compete with the,450 Bush I better be very good
I have drank the kool aid I know but it's a flat shooting (for what it is)
Hard hitting SOB

But it looks cool

Hank
Might be a hoot in pistol version.

The .358 Norma mag? ummm....it probably holds less than 1/2 as much powder.
I've got a couple of 300 Blackouts...

I am interested in the 350L for subsonic hunting, but that will require I get another (larger) suppressor.

So.. win/win, right? smile

In all seriousness, if you already have a 9mm suppressor, some of those will work for this. If you don't, it's a good excuse to get one. Liberty Mystic X, Griffin Optimus, and something (I forget the name) from Dead Air are a few options that double as both rifle and pistol cans and will handle super and subsonic 350.
