Who’s all running them and what’s your thoughts? I want something that can serve dual purpose for CQC and also accurately make hits @ 300 or 400yds if I chose to hunt with my rifle. LPVOs seem to be the answer. I’ve particularly been eying up this Steiner for my new AR build. All opinions welcome!

I have 2 Trijicon 1-4 Accupowers with the segmented circle and BDC reticle. The etched reticle is bold enough to see the segmented circle easily yet the center dot and corresponding BDC lines are fine enough to get a good sight picture. Glass is very clear, both have stayed where I set them. It's a very easy scope to get behind.

I've hunted with the scope and have no complaints.
I've shot up close and while the illuminated reticle is not Aimpoint bright, that segmented circle really helps.
I don't think I've had either one past 200 yards yet, our steel range is right in the middle of a deer hunters paradise but season is over now.
The size and weight is good at 17 oz. Power selection is easy to turn and fast. I really like them.

I have another gun with a Leupold VX6 1-6 with the FireDot duplex and a CDS dial. So far this scope has been spot on and out to 500 yards, whatever I'm aiming at is in trouble. The glass is very clear and has a big FOV. Weight is nice at 16 oz. 6X is plenty of magnification but the reticle is a little too thick for precise shots. I have it on a Colt light weight because of this. The FireDot is Aimpoint bright and great for close range drills. The power selector needs a Switchview throw lever but add that and it works great. I don't fully trust this scope but it's never been off in the last 5 or 6 years I've had it.

As for the LPVO, I agree it's the best choice for a do it all optic. I've used ACOG's and red dots along with higher powered scopes and have no problem grabbing either of these scopes to go play.

Edit to say I have had one of the Trijicon's out to 400 yards and the BDC is close enough.

Low Power, variable optics are the way to go. In my family, we've been running them on hunting rifles for over 30 years, and I've been running them on AR's for over 20. Most of Leupolds, in the 1-4 range. Of course there are many great options in this area today. I wouldn't mind mounting a good 1-6 on a couple of rigs.

Hey the Steiner is a great scope, I am going to buy another one when I finish my next ar. I think the illumination might be brighter than the trijicon.

Yes let me be clear, the Trijicon's illumination is lacking in broad daylight.

I was,in this position recently and ended up with a Burris xtr II 1-8 ffp and love it.

The Burris looks to be an excellent choice also! Although, it seems to be a tad on heavy side from what I’ve gathered researching it. So many manufacturers making quality LPVOs now that it’s tough deciding which one works best for me.

the trijicon 1-8 is great glass, more than daylight bright, tracks very good, holds zero, good reticle, locking turrets, heavy. I found mine at an unadvertised price of $1100 mil/mil. The PX4i, 1-4 is good glass, great reticle, covered turrets but mushy adjustments, tracks well, don't know how it holds zero only shot it one outing daylight bright at 1X its good to go. Leupold VX6 1-6, after its return to the factory it has stayed on one hunting rifle, a DD with a pencil barrel, it has not changed zero, all I shoot in it is 62 grain factory fusions, Zeiss Victory 1.5-6, best illuminated #4 reticle I have ever used, positive clicks, tracks well, holds zero, on a hunting 6.8spc. SWFA 1-4, on a 300 BO holds zero, crappy glass, exposed turrets sometimes get changed a click or two moving the gun around in the truck or etc, reticle is so so inverted v dot, best value of all of them if you get it on BF sale, I pull the thing out, check the turrets, fire off hand at 50 yards hitting 50 cent soda cans with 1.00 Cat-ridges...all have their pro's and cons but so far because I have not used it a lot I am really liking the PX4i, its got good enough power at 4 with a clear image and a fine reticle to make precision shots, while at 1 on brightest setting works well at close range. Doug at Cameraland one of our sponsors, has a few open box models that are less than list if you want to try one.

I have a SWFA 1-6 coming in the mail. I hope that is a wise choice.
I got a 3-9 SWFA as a gift a few years ago, and I did not like the eye relief or the tunneling at 3X, so I sold it.

I like Midway's Vortex Ranger 1-4x. 1/2 MOA clicks that are very positive. 1 MOA illuminated dot. Use 2 2016 batteries instead of 1 2032 battery & it's daylight bright.

I have used that mount on both my ARs with no issues. I’m not kicking in doors or shooting any high stakes matches but my rifles spend a lot of time bouncing around behind the seat and getting knocked around. I had a Leupold 1.5-5 in my last one that was stolen and it was near perfect for my needs. My current one wears an old M8 4x as a place holder until I can buy a 1-4 or thereabouts straight tube scope to hang on it permanently. I killed a coyote and 2 pigs under 15 yards this weekend and 4x was a bit more than I wanted, it’s nice to dial down to 1.5 or 2 in the thickets or when calling with short visibility.

LaRue LT104 or ADM. Both have returned to zero very well for me.

My preference is ADM after a LaRue wore the finish off my rail but only after taking it off a bazillion times.

... now I need to decide on a QD mount for on top my AR. Should I go 1.5” height or the 1.93” ??? I will probably also mount some flip up BUIS that I’ll need clearance over also.

The standard height mount will do fine in 30mm, I didn't care for the 1.93" mount but some do.

I did run into problems with the standard 1.5" (LT 104) mount with 1" rings and a fixed FSB, it sat low enough the crosshairs were on the FSP instead of over it.

Standard 1.54”. 1.93” was developed for reasons that do not apply to most and has chin weld, not a cheek weld.

Prone would be a serious pain in the neck at 1.93"

Yeah, I probably go with the 1.5” then. It’s my 1st AR and I just didn’t know if I’d be better off going taller in case I’d ever want to mount a light/laser in 12 o’clock position and need the clearance.

I wonder if that mount is made in the U.S.?? Just curious.

I kind of assumed that at that price. It would be a steal if American made! I don’t think there’s anything foreign made on my AR up to this point. The Steiner optic says made in USA on it but I’m sure some of the parts were most likely shipped here. I will spring for a good ol USA made QD quality scope mount though. Just something I believe in ... even if it does cost a considerable bit more.

I have a friend whose rifles change POI every time he takes them out to make sure they are on, I told him its the rifle gnomes in his gun safe. I don't have the gnomes I guess, I use LaRue, Seekins, Badger and those bottom feeders AeroPrecision mounts. IIRC it was TWR who might have said "cheap parts work fine until they don't", I don't want the don't to happen when it just can't....

My Steiner P4Xi came in. The glass is impressive! Love the brightness of the dot in daylight. Good reticle overall. Only complaint is maybe it’s weight. Ended up ordering the ADM Recon QD mount with tactical levers for it. As soon as my mount arrives I’ll get it dialed in but so far I suspect I’ll be happy with this setup. I have some Troy flip-up battle sights coming with the mount ... I plan on shooting some with the irons too. The QD mount will allow me to change between the two and hopefully the Steiner will return to zero when I choose to use it.

The Troy flip ups are handy to have fun with if nothing else, the ADM mount returns to zero just fine as long as you leave the adjustment and position the same as well as shoving it forward before locking the levers. I have had mine off and on so many times, I don't even check zero anymore.

I'd bet that he fires 3 shot groups.

When we started zeroing at work using 10 shot groups the time it took us to get a group zero'd was easily cut in half.

but don't you think its better to shoot 5 rifles at 50 yards one shot at a time until it gets near the center and then one more round to confirm, then go on to the next one? You get more done this way! Now you have 5 rifles that are dead on instead of wasting 10 cartridges on one gun!!! Blue your preaching to the choir, people who know a lot about something that they know nothing about take offense easily so mostly I keep my mouth shut when shooting with experts, and shoot 10 rounds.
