Ordered my first Ar the other day,flat-top in 7.62x39.Just looking around,it seems scoping one is different than a bolt gun. What's your recommendations (rings,riser/rings,one-piece mount) and why?
Cantilever type mount is the way I go. Pick your poison there: Burris P.E.P.R, Leupold mark2, Aero precision ultralight, ADM, etc.... I've tried all of these brands, but settled on Burris..
Any real-world difference in the $100 Burris and a $50 Weaver?
If you are paying that much, you are paying too much. You can find the P.E.P.R for $70.00. They are a great mount and very solid. Like i said, ive tried a bunch. The burris is all i use now.

Signature Zee's is all I use for rings.I'll have to do some more looking.Amazon's price is $94
I wouldn't buy them at Amazon. There are places you can buy that mount for $70.00. I don't have any experience with the weaver mount, but the tactical rings are no where near as stout as the Burris XTR tactical rings, just as an example. They may look similar, but they are not...
I am getting all my parts for two separate AR builds for when I get home in late July. I wanted the Aero Precision and looked at almost all of them, but took a gamble and bought the Swampfox mount. It was 30% off through ExpertVoice, so I jumped on it. Hopefully it works ok. If you have Expert Voice, you can get the Burris AR PEPR for $64.20 before S&H. I forgot about Burris or would have ordered it over the Swampfox yesterday.
I use the Warne Skeletonized Cantilever mounts, before that I used the DNZ Freedom Reaper. I splurged on one rifle and bought a Spuhr, waiting for the pennies to add up so I can order a Swarovski Z6 1.7-10x42mm with the BRH non-illuminated reticle. You can spend as much or as little as you want, I would figure out what glass I was going with before I even considered the mount.

Rifle will be strictly used for hunting.Either a Sightron SII !.5-6x42 or a Vortex Viper 3-9x40.First thought was a 30mm Burris 1.5-6,but mount price increases...
Aero Precision are the best value going and very lightweight. Unless its Warne or Aero or LaRue or American Defense Manufacturing, you can pretty much guarantee that the other cantilever mounts (including the Burris/Nikon/Swampfox/Weaver) are made in China. Doesn't matter what they say or claim, put them side by side and you'll see the same manufacturing marks and clearly see they are all made in the same place. All that changes is how much you pay for them.
For budget builds, I use the China copies of the Burris. For quality builds, Aero is the way to go because they are pure quality, very reasonably priced and lightweight to boot. I have several LaRue mounts and they are incredible mounts but priced accordingly. Pay your money, take your chances.
That mark 2 mount is a good one. The guy saying burris, nikon, weaver and every other mount made is garbage is full of schitt. Also, Aero isnt "pure quality". Ive seen those ultralight mounts break. THEY are garbage.
