I spend my winters in southern Arizona, riding ATV's around the desert with a bunch of other old farts. Up until now, I have been riding a Yamaha Grizzly 700 quad, but I just purchased a Honda Talon side-by-side to replace it. We do much of our riding along the Mexican border and most of us always go armed. In addition to a sidearm, I always carry an AR-15 carbine in the cargo box on the front rack of my quad. Bad stuff happens sometimes along the border, and while we do not go looking for trouble, if it starts looking for us, we prefer to avoid being helpless.

My dilemma now is that the side-by-side actually has less cargo room than the quad. No more convenient front box to keep that rifle handy and dust free on our rides. I have been searching the web for some sort of rack or case that will attach securely to my Talon, hold the AR securely, yet allow reasonably quick access to it in an emergency. I would either like an enclosed case or a rack that attaches to a roll bar or other surface. The machine does have a roof. I guess I could use a trash bag on the rifle to minimize dust contamination on the weapon if necessary. It would be nice if the rack could be locked while we are on a hike or at a restaurant.

My ATV dealer didn't have any bright ideas (but he did give me a good deal). Any suggestions on a way to accomplish this?
This is what I have on my UTV. Best I've found.

Love it. Have mine on the front, in front of the driver for quick access. But you can put it anywhere in a couple minutes with no tools.
Great Day also has an overhead rack
I put a single gun rack above the driver and a double above my rear seat.
