The .275 Rigby did well this morning. This group of five Nosler 120 grain Ballistic Tips at 200 yards measured 1-5/8” c.t.c. The Ruger No.1 seems to like these slightly better than the Sierra 160s I had been using. Too early to be sure, with only 10 shots fired.

Beautiful rifle - does that one have the long throat that the older No. 1A 7x57's had?

In determining OAL to reach the lands, the sample 120 NBT was just barely in the case at 3.200” when it made contact.

That's not bad - my older one will barely hold a 160 when contacting the rifling.

When loaded to an OAL of 3.075“, 160 Sierras are about .030” off the lands in this No.1. So loaded, the 160’s boat tail is half above and half below shoulder/neck junction.

My long throated #1 in 7x57 shoots 120 BTs well, but really likes 150s over 140s and 160s.
It also likes RL17.

The Jard trigger, adjusted to 1-1/2 pounds, has been darned helpful too.

Great looking rifle and good 200 yard group as well.

I like those rings... Might be real helpful sometimes.

With those rings, it’s not necessary to crawl the stock, until the power’s turned up.

And, the objective bell on that Vari-X II 2-7x33 sufficiently clears the folded Marbles windage adjustable rear sight. The two small round-head screws on a Ruger folding rear sight would make hard contact unless filed flat, which is what I did before switching to the better Marbles.



This photo is unable to show the sight clearance, only visible when tilting the rifle very precisely in order to visually follow the objective bell curvature; it’s that close.

In this photo, the rifle is still wearing a Ruger folding rear sight (with the screws flattened), providing objective bell clearance about the thickness of typing paper. The better Marbles provides much more clearance, maybe slightly more than 50 thousandths.

If you enlarge this photo, you’ll just be able to make out the “ivory” bead front sight, which came standard on this 275 Rigby model. The also standard “express“ rear sight was necessarily removed, and stored away for later.

You could also have tapped the rear sight out and switched it to fold toward the butt.



I do like the Marbles though.

Coulda. But, that’d be JNR* with the 33mm objective. With your 40mm, there’s not much choice.

My seller apparently had two, as he initially shipped me a rifle obviously different than the No.1 shown in his GunBroker.com photos. I straightened that out quick, fast and in a hurry. The other rifle was very nice, but with less figure to the wood. What are the chances you got that other rifle? I’m told there were only 110 of these particular No.1s marketed.

I don’t believe I could realize any practical advantage from a hunting load which shoots tighter than this in a dedicated stalking rifle.

I have the same rifle and have gotten very similar groups.

Top 2 groups are the 120 TTSX over 43.0 of Varget

Bottom is 140 gr Accubond over 47.5 of Ramshot Hunter

All are "acceptable"

That Varget is really somethin’, eh? It’s also responsible for the most accurate .223 and .30-06 loads in my TCR 83. I’ll be trying it next in my .243 TCR 83 and my .30-30 No.1.
