Have a chance to buy a Ruger No 3 at a very reasonable price but have never liked the stocks on them or the overall balance do to the stocks. Anyone have pictures of lean trim "stalking" rifle made from a #3?

There have been a few on here that have posted putting number 1 wood on them. They should be easy to slim down and thought of doing it to mine but it in 44 mag and don’t want to mess with one of the rare calibers like that

How much do you like doing your own projects? You can have stocks profiled and complete the fitting yourself. What chambering are you considering?

RJ Renner does some nice work on No.3s.

There's a lot of room for improvement in the No. 3!
Here's my 22 Hornet with a stock I bought from someone else and a reshaped No. 3 fore-end with tip added.that I did.

Dammit....now I want to find a Ruger #3 and send it to RJ Renner...

so will a number 1 butt stock simply bolt up to a no 3 action

Some people say it requires some modification of the lever. I put a No. 1 butt stock on my No. 3 .45-70 and it fit just fine with no modifications required.

Yes, but it's very awkward and not very aesthetically pleasing. Here's what I did on a 32-30 with a #3 action and #1 stocks. It works just like a Sharps lever without the tail on the back. You could also weld the cut piece onto the lever at about 4 o'clock for a more custom look with a more traditional "opening point" (as in the second picture)

Beautiful guns. Wish they were accurate.

If you're shooting a round without much recoil I don't think the lever would be an issue. Otherwise, it would seem one's knuckles are up for a beating. I've been working on stocking a No. 3 I had rebored from .223 to 9.3x62. After getting the new butt fitted I realized my fingers were in for it with any normal load so I cut the tail off the lever, had a guy weld it in place where I wanted it, and then did alot of filing, polishing, and bluing. I need to get this rifle finished, but here's a general idea...

I have been trying to decide on what to do with this. It is 223 and actually quite accurate, but I have an AR and Bolt action in 223. I do have a #1 stock (no forearm) for it and have also fitted a semi-inletted stock set to the action, but was not happy with how the forearm was coming out.

I am either considering reboring to 338 Federal or rebarrel to 257 Roberts. I took it deer hunting last year and shot a deer. Actually comfortable to carry in the woods.

Very nice! I have a Martini cadet stock from Treebone that I fitted and hope turns out as nice as that one. Gotta get back on that project.

It looks like you have a Kepplinger single set trigger on your elegant No.3. What do you think of it?

I have really enjoyed mine over the years. But, after recently installing and using a Jard 1-1/2 pound trigger on another No.1, I’m not quite so enthusiastic about the Kepplinger as I was before.
