I just noted on the Henry website that they are finally offering a rifled barrel slug gun. I always thought it would be a better quality replacement for the H&R slug guns that seem to be in high demand. Looks like it's only available in 12 gauge right now. I'm hoping that a 20 gauge is in the works and I'll pick one up. Maybe a youth model too with a shorter barrel and stock.
I used a NEF slug gun for a couple of years. A 20 gauge. It shot almost everything well but it was a bit heavy. Would have liked to have found one of the lighter versions.
Website states 6.88 lbs for the 12 gauge model with a 24" barrel. Not sure I would want to go much lighter in a 12 gauge single shot. I would prefer a 20 gauge with a shorter barrel.
Agreed, the 20 gauge never let me down. I mostly used Brenneke slugs the new version of the old style.
As someone who survived an Ithaca Super Single slug gun many years ago, I’ll agree a 20ga would be a good idea. Even my 1961 or so 20ga Deerslayer thumps you pretty hard.

Slugs, like words, can hurt.😛

I’m sorta hoping for a .444 myself.

In my experience the Ithaca and the old Savage Stevens pump shotguns kicked harder than most. Steep drop at the heel made them sort of obnoxious to shoot with heavy loads.

Could a 44 mag be rechambered? That would be the easiest route, I would think.
I believe so, but it would be cheaper if they made one. Don’t need it, and a .450 would work as well if a sudden opportunity to go to say, Iowa arose. I have bullets of both calibers.

Why not get a .44 and just ream to .445 supermag?

More about want than need??? Would be in my case. Don't need one but it would be fun, no matter you got there.
grin
“Want” and “fun” is why there’s stuff leaning in corners around here. Getting out of hand.
That’s a thought. I presume you can shoot .44 maggies in that too, right?

Might be an issue with regs in some states; some just describe cartridge limits, others list specific rounds.

Anyway, it’s all just food for thought right now.
