The T/C Encores are priced to high as far as I'm concerned. I may buy one, but that doesn't mean I don't think I'm being riped off some.
Why in the world would you buy something if you thought you were being ripped off????
They've sunk a ton into the advertizing blitz so the money has to come from somewhere. I really like the system and the new Prohunters are selling darn well, from what I see. The big problem is, I have the original style and Droptine's Prohunter has a much higher cool factor. I must resist temptation!!
Why should you do that Bruce? You didn't resist the Ti Temptation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't want to appear too "easy"....lol!
I have two lists
one has all items I think are priced too high on it

the other has all things not priced too high on it.

one list is empty.............duh

I think they are but I still bought 2. Everyone's in our pockets no matter where you go or what your buying nowadays.
Maybe if you look over at Huning Rifles you'll see why they have been trying to get the pricing up. S&W just bought T/C for $102 million.
I'd rather have an NEF Handi Rifle. Better looking and just as accurate.
Swamp..,

With you on that. T/C barrels cost as much as an entire Handi-Rifle. They are overpriced. Not only that, but the factory stock makes it one weird looking rifle to my eye.
Lemme get this straight...

You're gonna buy something you think is priced too high?

Damn...

PM me; I might just have some stuff for sale...

And that is exactly why I have never purchased one.

Nope. You misread or I misspoke. My Contender is a safe queen until something I must have comes along ... it will then become trading material. Since S&W bought T/C look for prices to soar from 'overpriced' all the way up to 'outrageous'.

For the record, I consider T/C waaay over priced and Handi-rifles one helluva buy.

I believe S&W will improve T/C. I'm hoping the Encore is dropped in favor of a true rifle.

OUTCAST... not you... Thomas...
Handi Rifles SUCK compared to an Encore that is just plain hard cold fact. I don't agree with the high prices on encores but truth be told they are a great action to have and more versatile than anything on the market anywhere. The Handi rifle is just plain shi**y . You get what you pay for! The only thing they are even remotely good for is teaching a child, theat way if they screw it up who cares just throw it away.
Handi Rifles are pieces of junk. You get what you pay for.

Anybody I know that owns a Handi Rifle also drives a Dodge.

I drive a Toyota and a 2005 Mustang.

Handi Rifles are neither handy nor a rifle, discuss.......
They are very Handi and more accurate than an Encore. An Encore is just a pistol with a crude looking stock.

Rl..,

Just curious. Do you own both a Handi and an Encore? My Contender simply will not shoot in the league with my Handi.
I once ragged a buddy over his Handi Rife ... before I saw about half dozen shoot, then bought my own.

I do drive a 300M

I have both handi and encore and contender.the handi while a good rifle +/- was in need of alot of work to get it to shoot straight.free floating the barrel and the terrible trigger.
if you want a extra barrel you have to send the complete rifle back to have it fitted by the factory.
1. handi's can shoot with work.
2. extra barrels are a pita
3.fit and finish is spotty at best
4.but a encore

just real life experiences count.

I have had both, and the "must send in the gun" to get a new barrel thing did in the NEF handi for me, that and the shotgun frame it has.

I sold my NEF and bought a Encore.

The NEF is a very accurate shotgun receiver rifle that is SUPER cheap to get barrels made for it. The fit is marginal to make them cheap, but the accuracy on a good number of barrels is great.

At the end of the day the Encore shoots as accurate as most out of the box rifles in that cost range. It's more convient for changing barrels, but it does cost more, but you get better looks, and more convience.

I like the Encore looks and feel vs. the H&R shotgun reciever NEF. who can account for taste.

Swampman if I lowered myself to own a handi rifle I would use it to balance a fence post also..Nice wood on the fence post though.
I drive a Dodge Ram and shoot an Encore. Now I'm all messed up....

The wood on the fence post or the wood on the rifle on the fence post.

If you have read his other (too numerous to mention) posts on this rifle, you will realize that that one is "tricked out" with a stock from a different grade of rifle -- either the Target or the Buffalo Classic.

So, though he says they shoot better than any other single shot rifle "right out of the box" he tricked this one out to make you think they all look like that - at least in the wood department.

And I have an NEF Pardner in .410, a Handi in 243 Win and a Buffalo Classic in 45-70. Of the bunch, the Classic is a good rifle -- the Handi shoots okay, but the trigger is not good. The shotgun is a 100 dollar shotgun. The Handi is a 200 dollar rifle. The Classic is a 400 dollar (Cdn) rifle, and sure twice as good as the Handi any day of the week. My Ruger #1 makes them all look like the junk they really are.

And I would sooner push a Ford or a Chevy than to pay all that money for gas in a Dodge.

As far as the T/C rifles go, they are pricey, but everyone I know that owns one, loves it to bits. I might consider one for my next "deer" rifle.
I'm just waiting for the "only reason that thing may be remotely considered accurate is the choice in optics crowd" to chime in. I'm making my T/C Pro Hunter purchase later this year. Am awaiting arrival of the new 30TC to the market. Thinking from my initial observations this round may well lend itself to a lil wildcatting. Although I do believe it to just be a comercialized 30-284. But Hornady/ TC is touting velocity at around 3000fps with a 150. This purchase is not one that could be rethought with so many other similar rounds out there, it's just to have something different.

They continue to sell, so they're answering the market demands.

Priced to high? Hard to say, because it depends on the rifle's worth to you personally. There's a price to be paid for any single shot rifle, and especially one where you can change barrels and have an entirely different caliber in less than two minutes.

I think you trade off some accuracy for that, but then there are remarkable accurate TC Encores.
I own two low serial # Encore frames and have owned as many as 10 barrels at once. I now own a T/C chambered in 280 Remington and an SSK in 35-06 JDJ chambering.

I own 5 quality bolt guns but the T/C out-of-the-box 0ff-the-shelf-barrel in 280 Remington goes hunting nearly everytime. I was entitled to a 160+ Trophy W.T. this season. When I went afield, my Wby Mark V, Remington 700 in 7mm Wby & Encore SSK barrel in 7mm Wby stayed home. The T/C 280 took my trophy with one shot at 185 yards. He scored 180 & some change dried. Would you have entrusted your one shot at a trophy to your Handi-Rifle?

By the way, I encountered the buck at 30 paces but I allowed him to run to 185 yards.
"Would you have entrusted your one shot at a trophy to your Handi-Rifle?"

Why wouldn't I? It's as accurate as most bolt action rifles. I would have taken that shot with my .30-30 Handi in a heartbeat.
