I’ve go a Ruger No 1 that appears to have an improperly installed rib. I’ve tried two sets of rings (medium offsets and lows) and two different scopes, and I run out of elevation down. I’ll be about 3 or 4 inches high at 50 yards, and I can’t make any additional downward adjustment on the scope. To me, that means the rib has a slight downward angle to it since my point of impact is higher than where I am aiming.

I plan to send the gun back to Ruger and let them deal with the issue. Perhaps they can put a new rib on the gun.

Before I send it in, is there anything else I should try? Anyone ever have a similar issue?

Very well could be something Ruger screwed up.

Simple Question, that you might already know about. Are the front and rear rings the same height? Ruger front and rear rings are the same height on No. 1, and different heights for the 77/Hawkeye models. If you are using genuine Ruger rings, they will be marked with a number, and those numbers should be the same (ex 3 and 3) for the No 1. If they are different numbers (like 3 and 4) they are likely for a 77 or Hawkeye.

I have two #3 low rings on right now. I previously had two #4 offset rings installed. Scope is level in the rings. That’s why I think the rib is messed up.

Rings should be flat against rib, so rib not machined correctly or maybe not seated at back ( check where it contacts receiver? )

What model is it and was it purchased new?
Wondering if rib for diff bbl contour would cause this.

Here’s a picture. This is a 7mm-08 built in 2015. I bought it used from Cabela’s last year, but the gun looked brand new.

There are 4 different barrel contours and it takes a different rib for each contour. Straight out of Cabela's, can't see any one messing with the rib. Nearly sounds like there is a B rib on a A weight barrel?

Any chance this one has the wrong rib?

Or is it possible the barrel is warped?

Can you use calipers or a level to check the angle if any of the rib?

Had a similar issue years back with a No 1V. Across 2 different scopes I needed about 9 more inches of elevation to get on. Called the company and got a set of rings in 5 days that did the job.

WRONG. Ruger didn't start marking rings until around 2003 and occasionally fails to do so.

Here's an option: Get EABCO's Slip-over scope mount for the #1. Then run Burris Signature Zee rings with +10/-10 MOA inserts.

But it does sound like the problem is a wrong rib on the wrong countour barrel.

Makes me wonder if it’s a 1B barrel with a 1A rib.

Anyone know what the muzzle diameter should be on a 1A barrel versus a 1B?

Great looking rifle! Well worth figuring this out. The folks suggesting that it's got the wrong rib may well be onto something.

I’d call Ruger and see what they can help you with.

I would almost swear that you can see that the scope is pointed down relative to the barrel. I’d remove the scope from the rings and put a long straight edge, yardstick,or something similar on the bottom rings and check the relationship between it and the barrel. It would kinda like bore sighting it.
That may help you figure out where the actual problem is.

I had the similar issue, tried 2 or 3 sets of rings and at least 2 scopes, but bullets landed to the right of zero no matter what. Called Ruger and returned it to them; it came back in two weeks fixed. The work order was pretty vague, but I can tell they relieved the rear of the rib so it doesn't bear on the receiver now.

Interestingly, it was a 7mm-08 also, I think I purchased it in 2017 but I haven't bothered to check the manufacture date.

Interesting. I talked to Ruger on Friday and they said I could ship it back in, so that’s what I plan to do. I would really like to get this figured out. The gun has some of the nicest wood I’ve ever seen on a No 1.

Got the gun back today. They mounted a new rib on it. According to the test target, the issue seems resolved.
