Hey folks, I picked up a 12ga pardner sb-1 reciever today. I have read that low pressure center fire barrels are safe on these, what says you ? I would like to add a 30-30 or 22 hornet maybe ? Or is sb-2 reciever the only way to go ?

Yes, a medium pressure cartridge would be find. I once had a H&R combo on the SB1 frame with 20 gauge and .22 Hornet barrels.

I'd really like to put a hornet barrel on this one, but they seem to be hens teeth where I'm at. I suppose a serious smith could build one. My concern is with the shotgun firing pin though. Surely someone here has tried it.

Your shotgun may have a rifle-sized firing pin. Measure the diameter before making a decision.

If ya don't mind sharing - what did you give for the SB1 12 ga set up? I am liquidating a friend's assets, for the widow, and there is one of these in the lot.

I have also heard of folks cutting the shotgun barrels down and using the stub. They make a rifle barrel to match the inside contour of the shotgun barrel and build rifles that were never made or hard to find. I think a buddy has a 25-35 and a 219 Wasp. I don't know if it is a press fit or a bead of weld is ran around the outside, or JB Weld is used when sliding the rifle barrel into the shotgun barrel. A 327 Fed would be cool.

I got mine for $75 it was spray painted but it cleaned up really well most of the time they were always around $100 to my knowledge but in today's market that's a deal

I'm seeing them at $125 to $175 around here.

Can I put a rifle barrel on a shotgun frame?

H&R won't fit Rifle barrels other than 357mag and 44 mag on a shotgun frame since the shotgun frame is not heat treated to handle the pressure.

Thank you Bruce, and others ! Looks like I'd be better finding one that's a rifle to start with.

Too bad H&R became only brand name for Chinese made shotguns after Marlin then Remington closed the plant in Gardiner Mass. They've been out of production for far too long.

Your SB1 frame is plenty strong for 30/30 and 22 Hornet. They used to make combo barrel guns (pre-SB1 and SB1) with a rifle barrel and 20 gauge barrel. I have one in 357 Rem Max and 20 gauge.
