Not much to tell. It's either my 3rd or 4th largest I've ever taken. Used a 23" 30-30 AI with a 150 grain Ballistic Silvertip ahead of 36.2 grains of H4895. MV is around 2570 fps. Range was app. 185 yards, and the hog -- shot through the heart -- made a 20-yard dash into brush so thick a rabbit wouldn't even go in there.

The photo doesn't do this one justice. I am estimating he'd go a solid 285-290. But he did not make it onto a scale.

As to the bullet, it broke the onside shoulder, penetrated the heart, damaged a portion of the lungs, broke a rib on the opposite side and made it through its 2nd encounter with an 0.7" thick gristle before coming to rest under the hide (very nearly exited). The recovered bullet weighs 109 grains.

Thanks. This one may show the size a little better.
Yes those bullet failures sure do break a fellow up. smile Nice hog and TC
MGM Barrel?
It's a TC special run that was made for either Midway or Ed's.
Nice hog and rifle Bobby T. wink

Sweet! Congrats!!

I like that a lot!
Well done Bobby! Glad to see you're still keeping them at bay down there.

Congrats! Big hog and a neat little rifle. Looks like perfect bullet performance too.
Now that is the right use for a T/C Carbine.

Well done.
Thanks, fellows. I appreciate it. Haven't been around much lately, but the hogs have apparently been busy as I've seen lots of rooting. Am hoping to have a chance to take out a porker or two in the next few days if my health cooperates.
Another cool rig. Now you got me thinking about a TC between this and your
25-35 pics. A 30-30 AI sounds pretty nifty do you have a pic of the loaded cartridge? I actually run a reduced load in my '06 that approximates your 30-30 AI load. I run 35 gr of H4198 with a 150 gr RN (Speer or Hornady) out of my No.1 RSI. It's about Ideal for still hunting white tails in thick to broken terrain where my shots rarely exceed 150 yards. I plugged a heavy four point (eastern) this year with the load and it penetrated stem to stern and stopped on the off side hide.
This is the only image I could find -- not the greatest but I guess it will do.

I've used the 30-30 AI for dozens upon dozens of animals and love the performance.

Here are a few that were 30-30 AI'd...

Ah, memories.
Thanks, Bobby!
Jimmy
Nice hog! And good load performance! Other that the coating is there any structural difference in that bullet and the regular ballistic tip?
Thanks,
Rick
Bobby-can't tell from pics but is that a Contender carbine? G1 or G2? I have been playing with a 375 (on a G1 carbine) but that 30 AI sure looks interesting.
Bravo! Looks like the .30-30 AI still had some steam left!
Big pig. Not bad performance for a BT bullet, I've finally realized if they are not pushed hard they are not a bad bullet. But man the early ones out where really bombs.
That hog's impressive, but that's gotta be the biggest 'coon in the world!
I know I'm due some cataract surgery in the near future, but the pics here look like they were taken through an oil soaked zip lock bag. Is it just me, or is it some Photobucket feature we've all been pleading for?

I've always loved your photos and reports. Hope the health holds up and we see some more.

I think photo bucket is not being nice. All the photos are out of focus on my screen.
I THINK you have to pay PHOTOxUCKET just to see someone else's photos. I like all your photos Bobby. I like your Contenders too. I keep thinking on which case to build a 35 'cat on? Would like a large rimmed case and to use a heavy fast twist barrel for that caliber. 9.3 is on the table too. The 30-30 AI is a great one though. Would a 30 based on the 375 Win be able to carry more volume? It might be less recoil to stay with the 30 cal. Keep showing us your adventures. I would like to be able to kill pigs too but don't want them in Missouri. Be Well, RZ.

There is an absolutely perfect fix for that if you use Firefox (possibly other browsers)!

In Firefox, to to Tools, Extensions, then type photobucket embed fix in the search box, then Add to Firefox

For the original web page with the fuzzy images, you have to refresh the web page (control and F5) so don't just go back to it and say to yourself "That bloody Swede is wrong!!"

I just checked for you, and the author of this fine extension also has a version for the Chrome browser (but you should use Firefox if you care at all about your privacy)
