No way does a .243 single shot rifle need a 5-14 power scope.

But I want to see how well this Ruger .243 RSI shoots with 80 and 100 gr. Federal blue box soft points -- and this is the only modern scope I have
(Note that the scope is pushed back as far as possible in order to get good sight picture

Well, maybe not an RSI.

Number 1s are a little problematic with regard to scope mounting. They make extension rings, but I don't care for the looks, so I went with the longest tube/eye relief combo I could find, a VX-3I 3.5-10. Eye relief is perfect at 3.5, and usable at 10x if I crawl it a bit, which should be doable anytime I have time to use 10x.

I was looking for old style VX2 2-7X for the long tube. Couldn't find one at decent price so slapped on an old M8 4X.
Even then, I had to use one offset ring to slide it back enough (that ring at the rear position).
It was just a tiny bit into the offset, and it worked. But I moved it back a little bit more and will rezero.
Wearing a layers I had to crawl it a bit much last yr.
Mine is also an RSI.

I like it. Leupold and a No1 is a class act. Not over scoped in my opinion.

I have used Nikon Omega scopes with longer eye relief on some big bire rifles. Those should work on No'1 where some extra eye relief is needed. These are marketed as black powder rifle scopes. Good optics.

The only scope I had that fit on a No. 1 without crawling the stock to get a full sight picture is a Leupold 1.5-5x20. I have the tube less than 1/2" from the end but it has worked well for the way we hunt. All the others are like yours. Fine at the low power and crawl the stock at the highest.

I tried the Weaver to Ruger mounts and if they are set as far back as possible you still have to crawl a bit on the high power setting.
They don't look so good but are better than the stock Ruger ring set up.
