Anyone have feedback on the 20ga rifled slug barrel ? How's accuracy? How's the recoil?

No one!???
I had one a few years ago. Shot Remington Copper Solids around 2" and Hornady SST about 6". Recoil was pretty tame I thought.

Never shot any critters with it.
I also find the 20 gauge pro hunter recoil fairly tame. I handload my own 20 gauge slugs using the hornady 250 gr FTX bullet giving exceptional accuracy at 50 and 100 yards. Mt 20 gauge slug barrel shot the hornady 20 gr SST slug ammo fine yet POI varied to much with different lot numbers of the factory ammo so I began handloading my own slugs.

IMO---the best slug ammo made today is Remington Accu-tip.

got two of them here. one for my son and one for myself. we tried many different slugs and finally settled on the Remington accu-tips. they are accurate in our barrels and they kill well without beating you up.

The TC is lighter then most slug guns. So that's what I was wondering about. Does this gun beat you up? Would this be too much for a 13yo boy to shoot?

I'd put a really good recoil pad on it like a SIMS Limbsaver and be sure you have plenty on eye relief in the scope. Also, shoot the 2 3/4" Accutips instead of the 3", which, often times, are more accurate in some guns anyway.

I would not think your son would have a problem. Most flinching issues with young shooters is developed off the shooting bench and not in a tree stand. I handloaded a reduced 20 gauge slug load for a hunt club member son who was in 4th or 5th grade. I used the Hornady .452 250 gr HP XTP with a reduced charge of bluedot. I suspect the velocity was in the 1.000 feet per second range. I watched the young hunter shoot
a 10 pt at over 100 yards, the heavy bodied deer went 20 yards and fell over. The bullet was recovered showing the most perfect Hornady mushroom.

The slug used was a T/C 20 gauge slug gun with the wood stock

Hard to really compare recoil between guns/cartridges but my 20 with Copper Solids was probably somewhere between my 25-06 & 270.

Gun was a synthetic jobber. 3-9x40 Vari X II.

I have one that I use for Ohio hunts. Fully rifled barrel mounted to a "Flex Tec" stock that has a limbsaver pad. Typical shots where we hunt are 40 - 80 yards so I keep mine zero'd at 75 and can usually cut clovers on the sight in target using Hornady SST 250 gr sabot's.
Sighting the gun in from a sitting position at a bench seams to make recoil more noticeable. I sight mine standing using shooting sticks and it is barely more than my 243, fine for a youngster. and if he does shoot a deer with it the last thing he will remember is how much the gun kicked.
A few years back one of the guys was getting ready to head home in the morning empty handed and one of the other guys noticed two deer feeding in a mowed corn field and told him about them. He had already packed his gun away so I loaned him the TC and he got his meat doe with one shot at 135 yards. Most of the guys I hunt with there shoot 12ga pumps (always work in cold and snow) so when someone brings a kid to camp they always ask "Uncle Joe" to use the 20. So far no complaints.

I have 2 of the 28" PH barrels and 1 of the 26" barrel. These Encore barrels are a bit on the pricey end at just $389.00 + shipping from Eabco.com. Now for the performance side of the house. They are deadly accurate out to 200 + yards. I use only Lightfield 3" hybrids out of mine. They are a tad bit on the expensive side at $20 a box up at Cabelas in Hamburg Pa. but well worth the $$$$.
I hunt the special regulated areas in S.E. Pa. towards Chester and Adele ware counties where it is slug country only. I tried many of the other brands including the Remington Accu Tips but they just don't shoot as flat and hard as the Lightfields. If you gone on their website and follow the video on how to sight in your slug gun using their slugs you'll see what I mean. I have both the 20 and 12 ga barrels. Not sure that I would want to shoot either one of them all day long with 3" inchers in there but well worth the investment coming the first day.
I also believe they sell a reduced recoil version too. Have to check the website.

Good luck to everyone on the first day this year!!

Best,

Kimbo

I had one, but not the PH version. I had the blue, fluted barrel and it was very accurate. I let my buddy's son use it in OH three/four years ago and he liked it much better than his pump. I gave it to him the following year and he's still killing with it!

Accuracy was right at 2" with the SSTs.
