Picked up a really high condition H&R M163 "Mustang" .30-30 a few weeks ago and considering using it for whitetails this fall. Can anyone share any opinions or experiences of the rifle?

What is the difference between a 163 Mustang and a 158 Topper?

Not really familiar with the Topper either, that’s why I asked for opinions on the gun. The Mustang looks like a deluxe model with a schnable forend, red factory pad and from what little info that I’ve been able to find, a trimmer gun with better fit and finish. Additionally, it was only made in 1965 and 1966.
Mustang is a single shot rifle. Similar to the single shot Topper but a better finish. I've killed many deer with my Topper and always had it handy at camp for use by younger hunters. Enjoy.

Never seen one, but good for you.

I've owned a couple of the 158s with full length forearms in 22 Hornet and 30-30, but never for very long.
Sounds like a great gun.
