About a year back I tracked down a 1V in 6PPC my buddy sold. Last week a friend turned me onto another 1V in 22PPC. Now I have a complete set. Interesting they made 336 in 6PPC and 298 in 22PPC. I'm surprised these aren't fetching big bucks since so few were made. Anyone else have them?

300 or more is not necessarily "rare" in the No. 1 world. Still, it's not like they are a dime a dozen either, good score!
I had a chance to buy my friends #1 in 38-55, don't see to many of them. I bought his #3 in 25-35 instead, it's a fun little gun.
I'd say the 22PPC is harder to find than the 6mmPPC. That's a good start on a 1V collection.

Now all you need is a 204 Ruger, 223 (both versions), 22-250 (non-prefix up through current), 220 Swift, 243, 6mm Rem, 26-06, 7mm Mag, 300 Mag, and probably a few others I've missed, not counting the ultra-rare non-prefix single copy ones like the 222 Rem and 308.
6.5x284 Norma is one that quickly comes to mind
I spoke with a guy this weekend that had a 6.5-284. When they were current I wish I'd realized they had fast twist barrels; I hear they usually shoot very, very well.

My rarest one is probably my .475 Turnbull. I was told by Turnbull less than 100 made. It is the more accurate big bore I have ever shot.

After that, the Cabelas .30-40, the .38-55, and the .450 Nitro Boddington. I shoot all of them...well I haven't yet worked up the nerve to shoot the .450 blush

I thought I had scored a nice 4 digit 6mm BB, but the barrel was shot out. It has become a .280AI with a 8" twist.

While on the subject, exactly how rare are these in 6.5x55
The 6.5x55's were all Lipsey's Exclusives, so they were limited production The K1A might be the hardest to find right now.

Sold my K1-A....Swede....shot 1.1" at 200 yds for 3 shots....

The SS above, is that factory engraving? What chambering and model?

I had two of the number 1 22 PPC varmint contour rifles.
Sold both, for lack of accuracy. I had an after market trigger put in and tried several of the forend mods. Shot a few groups at close to 1”, but most were 1.5” -2”.
Hope u have better luck.
Ruger also chambered the M77VT in the PPC s.
Sounds like you could use one of each!
You have the hardest ones to find
I know where there is a 6.5X55, I think he will let it go cheap?
He said NO. crazy Then hit me.

Dang! That's toothsome!
Old Thread but great topic. Always see a lot of my old buddies that have forgotten more than I will ever admit to knowing on Ruger No. 1's. I do have a "few" including some of Joe's and Bill Ruger's. One such prize is the coveted and non-catalogued .222 in 1V. I just purchased one of the 6.5 - 284 Norma 1V. I have all the others except the elusive 308. I know where one or two are but I suspect they will never leave the family. I am 68 and should not be buying anymore guns but recently ran into a friend of a friend that collected high end .22 from Cooper, Kimber, and "others". I went over with my friend because he knows little about the Kimber or Cooper collectability (my son has a "few" and knows them real well). I was kidding him when he asked if I would be interested in any of his treasures and said "sure, if any of them were a Ruger No. 1". His eyes got larger than life and he got up from his desk and said, "hold on". I thought it was a joke but he went to his vault (yes, not a safe but a vault with a 1,500# custom safe door and brought out his one and only Ruger No. 1 he bought brand new in 1969, still in the box, unfired and with AAAAAAAA grade wood. It was a four digit and meets the Ultra Rare category of non-prefix point system. Yes, I spent a "bit" on it and it will sit in my safe with the other "few" No. 1's until you guys convince me it is time to sell. Few that I own are not top grade but I started back in the early 70's and was lucky enough to meet some real nice Ruger No. 1 people along the way. Joe Clayton was a legend and new more about the No. 1 than 99% of the people at Ruger. Don't kid yourself, Lee Newton is not far behind! Best of luck to all and if you keep lurking and looking you will find your treasures too!

Ruger1v
I only have one, the hunter 4 digit pre B in .280.
Told a couple folks, took to a show, had it on consign at a shop for a while.
Likes 150gr Corelokts well enough, I'm taking it hunting tomorrow.

I do like em, but really think a .243 in a B for chucks is about all I want.
Or an A or RSI custom in .35 rem.

Just don't want to work OT to have one built LOL
Getting too lazy and practical to have a custom bow or gun done.

It is not factory engraving, but, I contacted Ruger for a recommendation of an engraver. They sent me the contact info of 3 engravers that had done or were doing engraving on Ruger factory guns. I contacted all three. 2 of them anneal the receivers before engraving and have them re-heat treated after engraving. The third engraver, Frank Conroy, did not anneal the receivers. He said he was constantly sharpening his engraving tools when using them on hardened receivers. So I sent my barrelled action to Mr. Conroy and I am very pleased with the results.
I’ve owned two of the #1V in 22ppc. Neither shot very accurately, so I sold them. Spent lots of money on a Kepplinger trigger, and various forend schemes, but still had poor accuracy.

Yeah, I really want an RSI in 500 Linebaugh, I just don't want to pay for it.

The only No.1 I have considered slightly collectible is a D weight 450/400 I bough by accident on Gunbroker.
Got it from a pawn shop with bad photo. When we opened it at my FFL's I thought "it's a frikin' truck axle! Why's it so big?"
I looked long and hard for one in 38/55 then gave up when a Winchester High Wall action became available. The Ruger action makes a great canvas for a custom rifle and I've done two the third might be in 300 Savage or 308. I really don't need another rifle but need really has nothing to do with it.

I have one in 450/400 NE and with 68 grains of h4895 and a 300 grain Hornady it's easy to shoot. I took a nice big doe with it two nights ago.

GSPfan,

We've seen that beautiful 300 H&H, could you post some pictures of your other one, maybe in a new thread?

For those who missed it his 300 H&H...

Thanks,

The other #1 was a few years ago. I couldn't find the original thread so I'll just put up some pics here for you. The features are a 24 inch tapered octagon barrel, custom quarter rib all metal color case hardened, ebony forend tip English walnut for the stock, Tally QD rings. Caliber is 7MM/08

I have only seen 1 6ppc and one .22 ppc.... I own them both... wink I find that rare #1's are a lot like the the elusive "Turdy-point-buck" the ony reason most people want them is for the "bragging rights"... Most folks around here didn't even know I had them. I have a lot of Ruger #1's... Some are rare, and some are quite odd chamberings. Most folks here couldn't even guess what I have... (SCGunNut: No comment from you, please... grin ) - GH
I once owned a 1H 45-70 24” bbl with the original box.
38-55
475 Turnbull
3-218Bee’s the hard to find ones.LoL
Thanks
