I happened to look out my window just now and thought I saw two squirrels fighting under one of my bird feeders.
They were going at it pretty good. Well I got my binoculars and saw it was a mink and a black squirrel.
The mink won of course and he drug it down to the creek. I went down there and he went in an old muskrat hole.
Anyway it was pretty cool to watch.

Very cool indeed! Mink are such awesome critters, like a link between the weasel and the otter. I used to raise 'em and mine were nasty as nest of murder hornets, but check this guy out, amazing stuff: hunting with mink

Saw a cottontail rabbit whoop a squirrel. I was in a tree stand and saw the rabbit come by and go in behind me. I had heard the squirrel feeding in the leaves, also. All of a sudden there was the awfullest racket in the leaves and lots of squealing, right behind me. I almost jumped out of the tree stand. Looked around and hair/fur was flying everywhere and all you could see was this ball of fighting fur. Didn't know what it was at first and then the squirrel took out at something close to light speed for safer territory. The rabbit just continued on its merry way, not in any kind of a hurry.

Those mink and weasels are absolute killing machines. Years back on one of our whitewater and steel head fishing trips a mink took down a Great Blue Heron that landed just above our camp. When I made it to the site, the bird's feet were just disappearing beneath a cut bank. We had a brief tug of war, as I was interested in the feathers for fly tying purposes. Ended up leaving the bird there.

Oregon State Univ used to run a mink farm. The managing Prof said they were neat friendly animals until the day they hit puberty. Thereafter, they were absolute devils.
