I’ve decided to get back into trapping this year after a few years away due to work, home, etc (all the normal excuses haha) I bought a couple dozen #11 Sleepy Creek Dbl when they were going out of business, have cpl dozen dogproofs, some SC 4.5 beaver traps and some #3 SC Dbl. I like long springs.

Anyway most of my trapping will be water sets most likely.
Anybody got any chain set ups they want to share for the #11s? I’m the kind that likes to tinker with stuff and a buy once type too. I have some #2 machine chain and am going to order some JC Conner swivels to change every out to. Have a bender but JC price is pretty good.

Anyway if anybody has any mink or otter dvds they want to sell, let me know.

Great to hear you are going to trap again! The 11 sleepy creek is a great little trap. I cut off the end ring on the chain, put on a standard chain swiveland added about 8 more inches of chain. then just a lap link to run my stake through to anchor it down or attatch to my drowner system. You cant have too many swivels. My 11s are only used in water sets for coon mink muskrat. Will work for otter also. Dont forget to join up to youre state trappers association and nation ones too. They have protected youre right to trap again. Good luck to you BKS!

Those are better than the MB Crunch Proof?
I don’t know if they are “better” but I like the looks of them and they are supposed to not clog up with weeds and dirt as bad as the crunch proof.

Ok- thanks
I didn't know one way or another.
The elders that clued me onto the whole swivels are
important thing were all about the MBs and that's
what I went with. I do agree with having a good
swivel to keep the varmints from twisting up the
chain and wringing loose, which they will do
I'll look for some since I need to refit a few traps
#11 DLS are some of my favorite traps! Check out YouTube, there is a ton of info on mink/muskrat/etc sets
Most overbuilt #11 haha.

I welded up the JC Conner swivels after this picture. About 24-30” of chain on them, I cut it several years ago and didn’t measure it.
I think I’m just gonna put another rod swivel on on the end of the chain. I was gonna go with the HAgz bracket but I’m not sure. I have also thought about a toggle on the end but not sure.

I kept the original pans too in the event I want to change back.

Is it necessary, nope. Would I do it if I was running 100 traps, nope.

I long ago when to MB 650 C's for coyote and 750's with laminated jaw for beaver. Yeah, they're spendy, but they just flat-out work. When you figure what my time is worth to me, they're a lot cheaper than buying a lesser trap and dicking around to bring it up to spec.
I agree with buy once cry once, My coyote/bobcat traps are sleepy creek #3 double long springs with all the additions.
