A trapping forum! Very cool.

What is everyone currently (this season) going to be trapping? Favorite critter?

It has been 5 years since I last trapped (well be doing it next year!), is Speed dip still the favored stuff for traps, or as something new and improved come along?
I trap canines here - Speed Dip everything although a lot of guys swear it is garbage I have had good luck with it.
God, I can just hear all the "Castor canadensis" jokes now.
This could turn into a free for all.

Seriously, if I set any kind of trap this year, it'll be some rabbit snares.

Will be visiting here to learn, so y'all chime in with any info you've got...

btw- congrats on the forum!
SH,

I'll be trapping for coyotes and fox, followed by lynx later on in the season when it opens. I'm currently waiting on some bigger traps for wolf.
Are you using MB750's or Newhouses for wolves?
Steelhead, I speed dip my conis, but still prefer to dye and wax my foot holds. Kind of a topic for heated debate in some circles. Whatever makes you feel the best when you walk away from your set.

I have also tried the wax route before, and also on leg holds. No doubt that speed dip is simplier.

The last three years that I was in Ketchikan (97-00) the longest I ever stayed away from town was during trapping season, nearly a 1 1/2 months. Not even the steelhead and hunting would keep me away for a weekend in town.

I remember my second trapping season, the opening day I was out running around at 3am setting traps. Now doubt that 80-100 traps will keep a man BUSY.
Steelie,

Yote and wolf...mink and martin. Gonna give it a shot anyway. I would definately chase lynx but no season for the last couple of years. It's been a looong time since I last trapped...unless you count the annual demise of the "tree cougars" that invade my yard every spring and fall (small red squirrels )

If a fella can snare or trap a yote...he's doin it right. Need 22 of the suckers for a comforter I want to make. May take a while. In the meantime I'll continue callin em'.

best,
bhtr
